Well I have now encountered 2 clocks. One that wouldn't light up and one that had some pixels missing. I looked on ebay and some of these seemed to go for 30-50 pounds. So I took them apart which is quite easy and only took a few minutes. On the board is a socket that a couple of pins on the white part of the fascia plug into.

Because the clock is above the heaters the contacts on the bottom of the plug have dried out and come away. If you push them down the pixels, bulbs work. So rather than pay a firm to fix this as I noticed a few online or paying for a replacement on ebay which in time will probably do the same. All you need is to take 5 mnutes to strip the unit down and a soldering iron and you can fix this (quite easily) by yourself.
