#1: Speedo Problem *need help* Author: weller96c, Location: London PostPosted: Sat May 21, 2011 9:44 am

Hi all, need some help with my 206, i have a fault with my speedo. The needle stopped working and was showing zero MPH while the other needles worked fine, Then the needle started to move up again but was inaccurate and jumped all over the place,

When driving the speed gets to about 35 then will jump to down to diffrent speeds or to zero.

I have replaced the speedo sensor and gear oil, I have also replaced the speedo clock instrument and still the issue persits. Anyone had this before or can advise what might the fault?
Thanks in advance
Chris

Try opening the drivers door whilst moving (slowly) if the interior light comes on and the car beeps, then the dials are at fault.
Sadly it's a common fault so it's possible you have bought duff dials.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated, when I open the drivers car door while the car moves the interior light comes on but no beeping? My cars an X reg, dont know if that makes a difference?

if the interior light flashes then the ECU is getting a speed signal and the clocks aren't.

If the engine speed seems to drop a little low initially when asking it to idle it means the ECU isn't getting a speed signal.

Depending on age of the car if the odometer is clocking up the miles but the speedo doesn't work then the clocks are at fault.

There is also a chance there is a problem with the wiring. Check the large connector at the passenger side behind the front bumper.
