Battery not holding charge
-> 206 Problems

#1: Battery not holding charge Author: Jayde, Location: Brighton PostPosted: Sat May 28, 2011 9:57 am

Ok, so when I collected the car at the end of February, the guy had a new battery put in for me to be able to bring it back.

In the last couple of weeks I've had to charge it 5 or 6 times now that I only drive it to work once a week.

It's a pain in the a$s, and want it sorted to stop the hassle.

The info on the battery is
Classic
12V
40ah
60SAE

got a mulitmeter?

check the voltage when engine off. check again when the engine is on.

voltage should be 12.5v or higher/ 13.5v or higher.

if the voltage does not increase when u start the car this indicates the alternator is crap

Yeh he gave me the receipt, dated the day before i collected, from the garage he bought it from.

Should be able to get my hands on a multimeter over the weekend, so will check the readings.

If it's the alternator, am I looking at a b!tch of job?

Alternator is a bit of a pain IMO.

What year is your 206?
Is there an amp for the stereo fitted which could be draining it?
And how far away is 'work'?

No, haven't put anything into yet, and the head unit is taken off when the car isn't in use.
Is there anyway to check the alternator just to be sure, before replacing I may not necessarily need to?

i have this problem too,

but its a weird one...... had the sub, amp ect in for over 3 years and everything fine..

change the battery after the old one died and then it doesnt seem to hold its charge after ive a had the stereo on.

the query i have is that on both occasions the battery has drained i have been on a good run out in the car of 10 miles + so its not like a short run / hit on the battery not to gain a charge to power the sub , amp + stereo..

right, so checking the readings once I've got the multi meter and I'm sure I'll be back with more issues!!
Cheers for now guys Smile
