This morining i started the car and in neutral the revs dropped instantly to 0 and it cut out. i then kept the accelerator down and got it off the drive and as i braked and put the clutch in to get it into first the revs dropped to 0 again cutting it out. this happens at every junction or everytie you stopp basically. ive never known this to happen before and it was fine last night as i was in it for about 100 miles. there's plenty of petrol in it but the car wont start at all now.
Any help appreciated as i need it for work
Its a 2001 1.4 quicksilver also

idle control valve, takes less then 5 mins to change on a 1.4 engine

can pick a non-pug one up on ebay for less then £20 and they work fine.

I'm having the same problem with mine at the mo (2.0 gti 2001). At standstill revs are jumping between 400-800 and it sounds like its chugging. Drives fine, until you slow down to stop, drop the clutch and all the revs drop and cuts out again. I'm puttin this down to being the ICV. Is it simple to get to and replace?

Yes, one for the GTi.

cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT...41522a5051

www.eurocarparts.com/e...02f4e&IDLC

I'm unsure of the Peugeot part cost. Worth calling them.

Followed your advice and cleaned the ICV twice.. Still continues to bounce the revs, and cutting out when idle. I ordered the new part from Peugeot and replaced this today. When we turn the car on, revs are shooting up to 3500-4000 and not settling down. Why would this be? Is there anything else that could be causing the revs to drop??

I think turning ignition 2 clicks (ie not starting engine) for 10 seconds then off again (5 times) should get it back to idle when you next start engine. Im just passing on what i read somewhere, not tried it myself.

I had a 1.4 cutting out when dipping the clutch approaching a junction. Turned out to be the ECU coolent sensor....

There's two on the block, green and blue plugs, its one of them... (one is the temp gauge and the other is ECU temp)
