#1: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 10:55 pm ---- Just had my first accident in 8 years of driving, on my way to work as normal on the lanes, went round a corner and seen signs for 10mph I was doing about 55mph at this time, the reason being for the 10mph signs is they are re-laying the road with stones, put my foot on the brake to slow down and the car reacted like it was on ice and started sliding sideways, I literally had no control, went into a ditch and smashed the front end up, I'll post pics when I'm sorted
And look who turned up 2 mins after the crash! Sweepers to get the stones off the road!!!
And a last parting shot

Ive hit that new layed stuff at 70 before and spent about a mile going sideyways before gaining control again. slippery stuff. Surely they should have put the signs a bit further up t'road. might be able to complain bout that one.

Any signs before the 10mph one?
#10: Re: Just had a big crash Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 11:55 pm ---- did the airbag go off?
#11: Re: Just had a big crash Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:01 am ---- Passenger side airbag went off? And there were other signs for 40, when I seen the 10mph one I let go of the accelerator and was gonna coast til I got to a lower speed, but as soon as I hit the stones they were kicking up everywhere and I though fook that I clean this car way too much to be hit with stone chips so pressed the brakes, and the rest is history!! Gonna try and upload a quick pic now

#38: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:13 am ---- Yeah they virtually said I was to blame, I think if I hadn't braked to stop the car gettin stone chips I'd have been ok I'd have just rolled to a slower speed
#39: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:22 am ---- Gutting.
I think parking in hedges is taking this months competition a bit too far though.
Seriously thought at least you're ok. Those hedges can be mean. I've seen less damage on cars that have hit trees and gone through ditches.
Shame you didn't get any photos on the approach to the roadworks to prove there was no prior signage. By now they will have signed it all properly and claim they were there all the time. They start work early round your way, round here it's 10 o clock before they turn up with their machines. Lazy council b******s.
#40: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:26 am ---- Yeah thinking about it I should have got pics but my brain wasn't working properly, think I'm in a little bit of shock!

Its multiplexed & fired an airbag, chassis will most likely be bent
It will need a check on the jig to make sure everythings straight before you can think of rebuilding it safely.
#48: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:34 am ---- I don't think I'm gonna bother mrbsi, gonna sell what I can and buy a new car
#49: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:35 am ---- All the front end panels are bolt on.
Airbag ecu, pair of front seatbelts & a passenger airbag are easy to pick up.
As long as the chassis is straight it could be repaired pretty easily / cheaply.
#50: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:37 am ---- It's got damage above the rear passenger window right next to the roof
#51: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: craigdmjv, Location: WiltshirePosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:38 am ---- yeh thats what i was thinking tbh because youve put all of that effort into it and it looks to be in mint condition and the engine still runs so shouldnt be too expensive
#52: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:39 am ---- With the crease on the back quarter and the N/S/F whel being pushed back, definately non repairable. Likely damage to the inner wing too, so as Mr BSI says it would need jigging.
Make the insurance an offer to buy it back and then break it. Might make more than just the insurance valuation payout once the excess is taken off.
#53: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Fri Jun 10, 2011 4:40 am ---- Don't think I'm gonna bother with my insurance, don't want to lose my 8 years no claims!

The ECU's and airbags cost a f*****g fortune... 2 of mine went off on my 180 and it was £700 inc ECU.

That's where you get on the sticky wicket. The qusestion of have you had an accident in the last 5 years? If you answer no, then you would be committing an insurance fraud. If you answer yes, then your renewal goes up.
I had a crash in January. Had protected NCB but because of the accident, the renewal still went up due to the crash. They have you over a barrel no matter what you do.
I remember a lad in the police on a blues and twos run, went through a red light and one car stopped on the green side, the second car didn't. Even though he was not directly involved in the crash, the insurance companies decided he was partly to blame due to going through a red light and increased his private policy with a price hike.

The 'stone on tar' is a cheap way of resurfacing the road is far from ideal...the signage should be placed well in advance of the work though. Hope you sort it out with your insurers.

I know when Ryton was making 405's the shells used to be stacked outside.
Didnt really matter as they hadnt been dipped at that point.
I doubt Peugeot would get anyone even wanting a 206 shell now, be cheaper to just write the car of then re-shell it.

Just waiting for data to come on now and slate you for bragging about you know what lol
Good to see you're OK furryhobnob. It's OK to be shaken-up a little. My first crash involved an Artic and my trusty old XR2!
Razpulsedj, thanks matey! Although I'm not sure I share the same sentiments as you expressed
#104: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:26 pm ---- Cheers guys I love the support on here, think I've 90 percent decided to look for another 206
#105: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: data, Location: HerefordPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:28 pm ---- Good on 'ya mate Get a 180 - you might spend 2 months locating a decent one, like I did, but it's worth it, trust me
#106: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:30 pm ---- I've spotted a red one quote local, it's a 2003 but only got 32000 miles on the clock, up for £3200 but think I could get it for £3000, not usually keen on red but looks very smart
#107: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:37 pm ---- Which Red? Diablo Red or Red Red?
#108: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: data, Location: HerefordPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:39 pm ---- Check for overspray and make sure all panels are lined-up - if it's straight and there are no mechanical defects, go for it Also check the underbody if you can - any accident damage usually shows-up on the underside!
One of the 180's I went to see in Cheltenham looked very good, but I could get my finger inside the gap between the door and B-post on one side!!!
#109: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:40 pm ---- I think it's diablo red, I'll go and check now as I can't remember, I've got his number so gonna be giving him a call soon
#110: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:41 pm ---- It's flamenco red, here's a pic of said car
#111: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:45 pm ---- Looks pretty tidy, I like you have never been a great fan of red cars, think its seeing what happens to ford red put me off big style, but since having a diablo red pug the colour has grown on me a lot. Even the firedance is growing on me as well. Think ive decided I dont like the boring dull resale colours and would rather something a bit different that stands out but isnt in your face at the same time.
You going to invest in a bonnet bra for this one?
#112: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:48 pm ---- Noooo I don't like bonnet bras at all, and I know what you mean about red it's a marmite colour,I did love the silver of my gti but u don't see too many red 180's around
#113: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:49 pm ---- I'm thinking of a red and black theme will look good, with full sp kit( arches, bonnet vent etc ) to really finish it off, then lower it slightly
#114: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: data, Location: HerefordPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:50 pm ----

Red 180's are rare! Make sure it's PUKKA though mate!
#115: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:52 pm ---- Oh I will data, with so few miles on the clock it can't be too bad, had the cambelt done recently aswell
#116: Re: Just had a big crash:NEW PICS Author: LeeThr, Location: North West WalesPosted: Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:52 pm ---- Would save worrying about the stone chips though.
Yer, they do look pretty good in silver, but it is a very dull colour, its resale silver all you ever see. You dont see many 180's around full stop. I think when it comes around to getting my next car I dont think ill be able to choose which colour, unless there's one with something that just makes it stand out from the rest going pick me, I think it will just be print out the adds of each colour and pick one out of a hat haha.
