Garages try to sell you a new drive shaft, but you can get it done with a new C/V Joint.
Probably between £80-£120 i would have thought.

if its on from when you start the cars it will be a sensor, main dealer i found is cheaper when i had my 180(for the sensor that was)
#15: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 3:43 am ---- Well yesterday it did go off, but now it's constantly on. I'll keep a record when I take it out later see how it reacts.

It probably is with the labour cost.
#18: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 5:11 am ---- Labour cost is £46 p/hr at the garage I get my stuff done at.
#19: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:20 am ---- if your driveshaft is in decent nick id just by a new abs ring there alot cheaper than a new cv joint or new driveshaft, could possibly be one of the abs sensors as well.
#20: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:21 am ---- Is it going to stop me from being able to drive the car soon? Or can I ignore it until I can afford to buy the new parts?
#21: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:26 am ---- i drove mine with both the abs and esp lights on including the red stop light flashing for pretty much 4 months and it was ok although obviously its better to get it fixed asap.

Its fine, just dont expect your abs to or esp to work also if you crash you could void your insurance beause its a safety item.
It will only be a real problem when you go for an MOT, it will fail.
#23: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:28 am ---- That's fine. I'll sort it next month when the MOT is due.

JE_180 wrote:

I thought that, then it failed because it wasnt the abs ring or sensor.
It ended up being of the road for a month untill they found the actual problem..broken wiring.
#25: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:32 am ---- Well it's going to happen anyway lol, I've spent too much fixing it this month already :/
#26: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:56 pm ---- Update on situation, took it for a spin tonight and the ESP/ABS lights are no longer on...

Have a look at the ABS rings and see which one is cracked, then get some stud lock/thread lock (I forget which one its called) and stick it back together, this should sort it for a few weeks.
#29: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:50 am ---- I don't know what an ABS ring looks like lol :/

#31: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:55 am ---- oh right ok, I'll take a look when i get home. are they something I could change myself?
#32: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:56 am ---- Probably not.
The driveshaft or CV joint has to come out IIRC.
#33: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:58 am ---- you can do them yourself there not paticularly hard to change either, only side i had difficultys with was the passanger side when the drive shaft popped out and p**sed gearbox oil everywhere lol.
#34: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:59 am ---- haha, It might be easier if I do it now as I've had the whole side of the car changed lol.
#35: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:00 am ---- so the parts should be nice and loose.

I dont think the ABS ring will just slide on, you could try heating it up to expand it though.
#37: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: Andy180, Location: Stoke on TrentPosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:06 am ---- may as well have a go, another bit that can be difficult is getting the shock absorber back into the hub i spent a few hours trying do that but thats mainly due to not having the best tools for the job and not having much expeirence changing parts.
#38: Re: ABS + ESP Dashboard Light constantly on Author: JE_180, Location: WiltshirePosted: Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:08 am ---- I shal get father to do it. being Ex Reme he has his uses.
