#1: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:22 am ---- Hi there, new user here. I recently purchased a 206 and have a few questions.
Last night we had heavy rain here. When I went out this morning to go to work I noticed there was quite a bit of water sitting around the gear stick. I was puzzled as to where it could have come from but it seems the water leaked in from the roof right at the edge where it meets the windscreen, and directly above the gearstick, hence why there was a puddle of water around it. How do I go about fixing this so it doesn't leak again?
Also, I have just been on to our local Peugeot dealer and they have quoted me between £120-£150 to get a remote central locking key (I only have the standard key for this 206). Is there any other, cheaper, way to get one as I don't have the money spare right now to pay that amount out on a key!
Thanks for any help guys and gals!

#3: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: copey, Location: rochdalePosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:27 am ---- as said above, if its a front mounted ariel it will be that, seems to be quite common with pugs used to get it in my 106
#4: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:28 am ---- Yes, the aerial is at the front. So what can I do to stop it?
#5: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:30 am ---- Pull back the headlining & you will be able to remove the ariel base.
Add sealant and re-tighten.
#6: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:34 am ---- As a novice, I presume that means to pull the aerial out of it's holder on the roof and then put sealint around the plug and hole, then reinsert?
What is the best sealant to use, I can pick some up on my lunch break.
#7: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: mattievrs, Location: LeicesterPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 6:37 am ---- Pull the headlining down to reveal the underneath of the aerial base. Undo the nut and you should have a hole in the roof. put plenty of sealer (silicone sealant) round the hole inside and outside the car then put the aerial back on a tighter the nut. Once done use a damp cloth to remove the excess sealant and then leave to dry.
#8: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:09 am ---- What exactly is the headlining? You mean the roof cover where the water was coming in?
Sorry for sounding like such a dunce, I've no idea about the technical side of cars or anything!
What sealant do I use? Can I get some in like Halfords or anything?
#9: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:29 am ---- The headlining is the 'carpet' on the roof of the car (on the inside)
#10: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:54 am ---- Got ya. Will try and find some sealant from somewhere today then. Thanks for your help guys!
Any advice on the remote key situation? Can they be home made for cheaper or will I have to get one from the dealer direct?
#11: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:16 am ---- I read somewhere that silicone sealant shouldn't be used on cars, is this true? There are some silicone sealants in Halfords that would do the job but I'm not sure if I should get it. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, does the headlining have any clips or such to look out for when removing it? Don't wanna destroy it so it won't go back on again!
#12: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:21 am ---- Gently / carefully pop the interior light out & disconnect the plug.
Stick your finger in the hole & release the 2 plastic clips & the grey plastic lamp holder will now come free.
Undo the aerial base to seal it.
Any decent clear silicone will be fine for this job.
As for the remote key we need to know what year of 206 you have as there's several different types of remote keys used & there not interchangeable.
#13: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:28 am ---- It's a September 2002 Peugeot 206 if that helps.

Multiplexed then, narrows down the remote key choice to 2 different types
You can use a 2nd hand remote fob if its the correct type BUT you need a NEW transponder chip for the immobiliser.
Both the remote & the transponder chip need to be coded to the car & that requires diagnostic equipment ( Peugeot Planet ) & the 4 digit security code.
Do you have a blue plastic card with the Peugeot lion, silver scratch & CODE on it?
Lee on here can supply the secuirty code & new transponder chips a lot cheaper then Peugeot, shame your not in the UK as he has Peugeot Planet for coding the keys to.
#15: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:38 am ---- I don't think I have the plastic card. I'll check when I get home.
Yeah, I did read the thread by Lee for coding the keys and all, 'tis a pity I'm not from Britain or he could have helped me out.
Just my luck... typical!

The 4 digit security code is behind the silver scratch panel on the card & you need that security code if you want to code any keys to the car, any Peugeot main dealer can supply the 4 digit code with proof of id & ownership.
OR
Just ask Lee as he is a lot cheaper
#17: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:49 am ---- Can I buy one of those key fobs from eBay and just get the chip for inside it from Lee (if I can find the code obviously!)
Then get someone locally who may be able to match it all up to the car, as they'll obviously need to be with the car when they do it!

Yes & yes.
If you dont have the blue card then ask Lee as he can get the security codes for you from the VIN number
#19: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:00 am ---- Excellent, I shall contact Lee shortly then. Are there any types of key I should look for on eBay or are there ones I shouldn't get that wouldn't work at all?
All I would need are the circuit board and transponder chip from Lee then?
#20: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:04 am ---- Thats the correct type / shape keyfob case.
Just the circuit board & transponder chip needed.
#21: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:07 am ---- And Lee can definitely supply the circuit board and chip to me if I can get him the security code?
#22: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:23 am ---- IIRC to program the transponder, the car needs to be connected to Peugeot Planet. It's not just a case of buy a transponder and enter a code.
#23: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:44 am ---- Right, I'll have to be on the look out then for someone local who is able to do the programming and can get me a blank circuit board and transponder!
#24: Re: Leaking Roof and Remote Key Question Author: PaddyC, Location: IrelandPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:20 am ---- Oh, and I also got the sealant and fixed the leaking roof problem. We had a torrential downpour all afternoon here and the car is bone dry inside!
Thanks to all for your help!

He can supply the transponder chip, you will have to find your own circuit board for the remote part.
