#1: Repair bill :( Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:35 pm ---- I got a pre MOT check done today, and this is the list they gave me.
Do you know how many of these will fail the MOT? as he didnt really say. Also, the quote they gave me was £400 to fix the lot. is that ok?
O/S/R arch liner adrift
Brake load valve seized and leaking.
N/S/F arch liner catching wheel on full lock.
Leak on N/S/F CV boot.
CV joint warn on O/S/F.
Head lights are out ( I know this will fail the MOT)
I forgot to get a quote for a new inlet manifold gasket aswel, any ideas how much a garage would charge for this?
Thanks

Brake load valve seized and leaking. ------ Un seize with W40 and lever bar (on rear axle)
N/S/F arch liner catching wheel on full lock. ----- Cable tie
Leak on N/S/F CV boot. ---- Replace
CV joint warn on O/S/F. ----- Replace
Tbh you could do this yourself, its not that hard

#6: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:47 pm ---- £400 seems way over the top for what is wrong.
#7: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:52 pm ---- well what they've quoted is,
£210 for the load valve
£12 for front arch liner
£155 for CV boot
£74 for CV joint
Then rounded it down to £400.
I have no idea about this stuff, so I want it as cheap as possible :S
#8: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:55 pm ---- Replace CVs, penetrating oil the load valve (are you sure it is leaking as well?).
Cable tie/seal Arch liners.

I thought if you got a CV joint the boot came with it?
EDIT: sorry, just read your original post.
#12: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:02 pm ---- Hang on, you can replace a CV joint?
You need to replace the whole shaft?
And tbh £100 should cover it including parts
And a boot is a gator so why is it more?
#13: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:18 pm ---- its probably more because they'll probably replace the cv joint aswell. not sure.

#15: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:57 pm ---- Get another quote and make sure they aren't wearing a mask and a black and white stripey top as well
#16: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:15 pm ---- There's only one brake compensator valve? I've never seen a car with two
#17: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 5:48 pm ---- ill have to check with a bloke near work to see how much it will cost with him.
#18: Re: Repair bill :( Author: -Dave-, Location: North ManchesterPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 5:55 pm ---- How far are you from Kyle, He come's Highly recommended and would be a cheaper option.
#19: Re: Repair bill :( Author: E5GDM, Location: EssexPosted: Sat Jun 18, 2011 7:06 pm ---- Next time don't pay for a 'Pre MOT' check, just go to a place that does free re tests.

Which most place's now only offer if you get them to do the work. Also a lot of garage's put a time limit on a re-test which is not always suitable if its a expensive job. Pre Mot check's might be a extra expense but can save you money if you suspect something is wrong. The garage near me charge's a Tenner for a pre check which most people on here spend in McDonald's a day so not going to break the bank.

Pre MOT check was free
They basically said to me to put it through the MOT so that they know exactly what needs doing, then as long as they do they work within 10 days then the retest is free. And if I book the MOT online, then its only £28. But if it works out cheaper to fix these bits before the MOT then im going to do it.
#22: Re: Repair bill :( Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:08 am ---- £400 is extortion.
The only real issue it the driveshaft. About £90 (after surcharge) will get you the complete shaft and then if you know someone who can do it then you are onto a winner!
Since when did they check archliners on the mot?

If its hanging loose or interfering with the front wheels on steering lock then it will get picked up.
