#1: 206 2.0HDi - Engine and Airbag Issues... Author: SmithyXSI, Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:25 pm
    ----
Evening all,

My 2004 (53) 206 2.0HDi has been giving me some cause for concern recently, wondered if you could help me.

It's down on power, noticeably so. On a long private hill with my foot flat to the floor at 90mph it loses speed. Its slow all through the gears but will still rev to the limiter (or thereabouts before I can't bear the noise). Now obviously it is a diesel, but I dont think this is the only issue, as I seem to have happy memories of it being a bit faster? This has previously been an intermittent issue usually sorting itself out, but its been like it for days now. No engine management lights or errors are shown.

Instincts (having owned a few Peugeots) are telling me something electrical but not sure where to start? Any suggestions?

A seperate issue stems from the wonderful state of the UK's road network. Following a pothole incident the car now tells me it has an 'Airbag Fault' everytime I start it. In my 106 this was invariably the connections under the seats so I've reseated those with no success. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Smithy

Green plug under each front seat, these are for the seat side airbags?

Airbag fault really needs scanning to see whats thrown the warning light up, pure guess work otherwise.

Get it on a diagnostic scan. That will tell you the airbag fault as well

Wrote a full thread on how to manually trace a airbag fault

Quick replies, cheers! I'll get it scanned for the airbag fault, just wondered if there was a common fault associated with an almighty f*****g bang from the drivers side (aside from the obvious of actually having an accident).

Im more concerned about the engine, i'll get a diag done ASAP but has anyone had this issue?

When was the cambelt changed?

Can you hear a turbo leak?

Sure you just aren't used to it?

You wouldn't be able to pull the belts out tho would you?

Thought the fired, weblocks, pretensioners pulled the reel in 4 inches & then released as normal Confused

Cambelt's not been done in my possession (so the last 8K - now on 84K) but i'm assuming it's gone past a service interval and been done as the previous owner was pretty diligent.

Turbo's not leaking that I can hear.

Haha, it is slow but not usually this bad. I could seriously do without it being the turbo, though I'd assume they're not particularly difficult to come by if it is?

Mine was down on power and fuel economy was poor. So I had a remap and diagnostic and it came down to the MAF sensor being shagged. Possibly could be that but as everyone else has suggested it would pay you to have a diagnostic to be certain.

Beat me too it Grrrowllly!

Just to clarify this the car went in for diagnostics and despite no engine management warning light 3 errors were returned all related to the MAF sensor. This was replaced and the car now runs as well as it ever did.

Hopefully this might be of some help to others in the future.

i have owned my 2.0 hdi for 7 years done 134000 miles in it of hard driving.. normally if the air bag light comes on or other faults that are intermitant like abs light , its normally the rear engine mount ive replaced loads. have a check on the injector pump. there is the stop solonoid its got the electric plug on it . with the engine off in bolt it and have a look at the 3x O rings that are on the plunger . if you have power loss it could be one of those that has failed and that keeps the fuel pressure up . if one or more o rings fail you will end up with less and less power and also it wont start eventually. i had it once and the engine needs 400 bar of pressure to start i had 7 bar lol . replaced the orings and was all good and i had noticed a lack of power up the revs which this was also due too. also i did replace the injection pump later on and this wasnt pumping as well as it used too . O ring kit from peugeot is about 8 quid so worth doing i also have a spare in the glove box. also a weak engine mount will also make the car feel slower becos its absorbing the cars power. hope that helps some how .
