#1: Air bag warning light, speedo and now diagnosic light Author: kRAyZZed, Location: AldershotPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:35 am ---- Hi all,
Stumbled upon this forum after trying to do some research as to the problems with my girlfriends 206 - basically I was hoping to get a rough idea of what was going on before we paid through our noses and take it to a garage lol.
Some information about the car
its a Peugeot 206 1.4 Turbo HDI from 2003
The problems,
It started with her speedometer randomly dropping down to 0 a few months back, the car drives fine with no problems whilst this is happening - just no speedo. It is completely random when it comes back, sometimes in the middle of driving along it will just come right back up again.
Then we started seeing the Airbag warning light appear on her dash - again also intermittently to begin with, and now it seems to be on a lot more often then originally.
And finally just today her engine diagnostic warning light has started to come on - again not all the time - on a journey today it was on right up until 5 minutes before we got home when it stopped. I was under the impression this light stayed on till the error was cleared?
Also in a likely unrelated point, her car radio has always turned off when you turn off the engine instantly - however once or twice recently it has stayed on upon turning off the engine.
So any suggestions/ideas on what the problem could be?
I have a PUG garage about 30s from myself, which quoted me just shy of £100 to run a diagnostic.
Is it worth grabbing something like this online? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELM...27b0283a27

My 2003 2.0HDi went to an independent this week, fully sorted now.

Lee - I think you are right, I may just have to bite the bullet and take it in and get a diagnostic run - i may try a few independent garages and see what kinda pricing they may give me. Surely it cannot take that long to run the diagnostic? So £100 seems a bit much to me (and they told me if they had to run multiple diagnostics it could take longer and equal more)
Its odd because despite the various errors the car has not once had any running issues - even right now we just came back from shopping, and all of a sudden no error lights on dash any more, but I know at some point tomorrow one of them will re-appear.
Could it potentially be something as simple as loose wiring/worn wiring - to explain the sheer randomness of it?
Also the missus just informed me that the car started experiencing these issues a few months back when we had snow, so I had a quick check of the fuses to make sure there wasn't any condensation/dampness/water near them - but they 'seemed' ok, I will have to take a closer look tomorrow when its not raining outside.
Anyway I know till I get a proper diagnostic, its all speculation and guesswork
Thanks for all of your input

Airbag will more than likely be a loose wire or faulty COM
EML will probably just be a intermittent fault if there seems to be no problems, and will more than likely clear without needing to replace much.
When you scan the car, it runs all the tests at once so doesn't take much longer really.
