#1: Timing belt alignment Author: elcamino, Location: home!Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 1:31 pm ---- Hi.Does anyone know how crankshaft should be aligned using timing position marks on its pulley for fitting timing belt?thanks.

there's two timing pin holes one on the camshaft pulley and one in the flywheel, they need to be locked off together when replacing belt to ensure correct timing.

#6: Re: Timing belt alignment Author: elcamino, Location: home!Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 1:43 pm ---- It is a 1.4 8v.there is a lock position hole on camshaft pulley but for crankshaft there is nothing to insert a locking pin.

Yes thanks.when i removed the lower cover i noticed there are 2 marks i ve marked by red arrows.i thought they should be in line for correct adjustment.green arrow is where the camshaft hole could be locked.but as you see i should crank about 1/8 turn the cranksaft separately to make them in line.any idea about that?[img]

Also once the belts on double check correct timing by turning the engine over by hand 6 times and insert timing pins again to make sure the timing holes still line up.
#11: Re: Timing belt alignment Author: elcamino, Location: home!Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 2:20 pm ---- Thanks again rich.my engine was lazy a bit so i was thinking misalignment might be the reason!you think is there any tolerance for that?

yea the belt can be a tooth out and still run with out causeing any damage but it wouldn't run very well. Good luck you might have a much better car when you finished.
