Car not putting the power down (catching up to revs)

Hi all,

Car (1.6 16v Xsi 2001)

For this kind of a problem I thought it was the clutch, so last weekend I had the whole thing replaced with the OEM version. Seemed fine driving it back etc... But gave it its first real drive last night. Now the mechanic that did the job is a family friend, been a mechanic for nearly 30 years and he said the clutch he removed was pretty knackered, which doesn't suprise me as the car had a pretty neglectfull 100,000k life before I owned it the last 5000k. Since then I've had a full cam belt kit on, fully serviced it, sparks super 4's of course, front and rear brakes needed replacing, same goes with the front discs. It has needed a lot of work since I've owned it, but I love the car and don't mind the odd bit going here and there, but now I'm stuck with what could be wrong with it now. The revs far exceed what the car should be putting down, as an example when I tested for the problem yesterday, I took the car in 2nd up to 5000 revs and it was struggling to catch up to 40 on the clock, eventually the car caught up and the car was matching the revs.

Can anyone advise me here please?
Thanks in advance Smile

Ask your family friend who did it, cause that's what it sounds like to me.

Don't think the cable would be an issue, its a hydrolic clutch? Not sure on the fly wheel, I've left a message with him, when he gets back to me I shall enquire the above Smile

Been a while since I posted this, but the problem has only just been solved. A full clutch kit was fitted all was well, but the slave cylinder went shortly after the new kit was fitted causing slip, which in turn burnt the clutch a little. But because I know the guy he straight swapped it (with a story) for a valeo one and fitted a new slave cylinder along side the valeo, all is well now the cars driving great Smile
