#1: engine swap Author: austin316, Location: crawleyPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 4:21 am ---- Hi all, can anyone tell me how hard it would be to do an engine swap from a 1.1 to a 2.0 138? Would i need new looms, clutch etc? And also, roughly how much would i be looking at spending on upgrading the parts needed to fit the engine?
Thanks

#8: Re: engine swap Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 4:57 am ---- you need everything under the bonnet

I agree mate that's why I asked if he's got drums or discs in the rear, if he's got drums I would recommend upgrading when putting a bigger engine in
drum is fine for the rear.
put some low temperature sinter shoe on then it is better than rear disc.
#16: Re: engine swap Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:18 am ---- whole exhaust system will need to be replaced as 1.1 wont fit :D.
Cheaper to get a donor car, i got one ages ago, cost me about £350, but i just split it and kept my car a 1.1 and got myself an xsi that came up cheap
#17: Re: engine swap Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:19 am ---- think there is a cheap"track" gti for sale in here
#18: Re: engine swap Author: kieron, Location: in the housePosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:21 am ---- Engine, gearbox, mounts, driveshafts, rad, exhaust system, wireing loom, ecu, bsi, chip from the immob unless the ecu is unlocked
you could pick a GTI up for less than a grand, so just enjoy the car as it is and maybe change stuff like the wheels etc
#19: Re: engine swap Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:29 am ---- yeah £600 for the track GTI, might aswel buy it and drive that, sell your car and keep any profit or spend it on uprating things.
Thats if your only bothered about money and speed.
Otherwise go the whole hog mate and change it all just so it costs more, looks like your car does now and becomes a 5dr GTi???
