-> 206 Problems

#1: New owner, loads of issues! Author: jimmyca69, Location: Cardiff PostPosted: Fri Jul 22, 2011 8:01 am

Hi all

Electrical Problems

1.) Bought my Y Reg 5 door 2.0 HDI 206 last Saturday and spent a good hour looking over it. Tested usually stuff like central locking, all electrics etc etc. Anyway within a mile down the road after buying it the electric windows stopped working, then would work then wouldnt. Nearly a week later they havent worked for 4 days now so think they have gone completely.

2.) At same time when i stopped to check it out the central locking from key fob failed! Worked next day but day after gone again and similar to windows it too hasnt worked for a good few days now. The key opens the front and passenger doors individually but doesnt open all on key. Fob shows lights on car and fob itself and can hear the clicks from fuse box in car but doors dont open or lock.

3.) Is the rear wiper - this worked on test drive etc but noticed other day that this too doesnt work. The screenwash pump works so can spray rear windows but wiper isnt having any of it.

Now i looked into this and realised that my BSI based on the DAM thing you can do (DAM of 8864 i think) has the 6 fuses - from left to right is windscreen wipers, indicators and heated mirrors and then interestingly enough is rear wiper, central locking and electric windows (not correct order).

I therefore replaced the 3 fuses for them with new ones but no joy - checked the wiring around the BSIU unit under fusebox but nothing. Also tried following online instructions for a BSI reset but that didnt work.

Potentially linked to this is problem 4.) Mileage clocks

The previous owner advised me that after it had a recent MOT 2 weeks back (MOT certificate backs this up) at 132k the dash display went and became faulty. He bought a replacement one from a local scrappy. He fitted it and mileage displays 9k now. He researched this and said he had been told that the ECU and BSI would re-sync the mileage after it had been driven for a while.

Now im not sure but with the MOT certificate the previous week showing mileage which tied in with the full s/h i accepted this. Problem is now im wondering if he has tampered with the BSI and caused the above issues? what is the normal procedure for replacing the dash display? does the ECU and BSI hold the car's mileage and will therefore update it? or does it need to be hooked up to a PC via OBD to do this?

General Problems

5.) Radio/Clock/Temp display - to start with previous owner said he had problem with this and if pressing top it worked. He said he had fixed it by replacing bulbs though. Lo and behold after a few days the display went and i hab to press top of it, eventually though i have to really push it to get it working. Now i took it apart and noticed 2 pins where there should be 3 and today found this guide 206info.co.uk/Forums/v...art=0.html which seems to confirm the issue. Now as far as i remember i have 2 pins off the plastic bit but there didnt seem to be one stuck in the board - if i am missing 1 pin will soldering still fix this?

6.) Leak in drivers footwell - after it rained the other day and i was looking at fuses i noticed the wet patch under the mats. I have read it could be air con/heater matrix/door seal or blocked drainage. Is there any guides for checking each of these so i can look into it a bit more?

So a fair few problems - any help be greatly appreciated

your car will be preplexed so the milage is stored in the instrument cluster itself if you want a roughly correct milage you will have to find a pre 51 plate 206 with roughly same milage as you and take the clocks from that.

regarding your rear wiper, does the wiper motor still go? cause the wiper arms have a tendency to break.

welcome to the forum btw, HTH

Thanks Harty - motor doesnt go and with the info on the bsi i mentioned with them all being on that im assuming its the BSI having an issue. Whether that is down to dodgy earth, dodgy connection dont know.

Other people have mentioned the com2000 as potential issue?

Any other ideas? loads of problems so plenty for people to help with!

In addition to the above my display on the radio/clock now asks for a code everytime i turn off ignition. Never did this before and only done this since i took it apart. Is that a setting i need to change or have i dont something to it?

Edit - please note that i do no lose my stored stations, it simply asks for a code everytime and then i can use it as normal....

Any help on any of issues about would be greatly appreciated

The Central Locking...COULD just be a battery in the fob if you are lucky. But tbh i doubt that because of the other electrical problems.
The wiper could just be a duft motor, instead of a connection. But the problem i've experienced is that you always have to spend a while investigating the problem and ruling out each problem...Which can be expensive :\
Keep us updated ya?
