#1: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:55 am ---- Why is black the worst colour to keep clean, my silver gti got cleaned 1-2 times a week but even when I came to clean her it never looked that bad, the black however is a bar steward, don't get me wrong it looks great when clean but tomorrow when I get back from work I'll have a bug graveyard on the front of my car due to driving through the lanes to work, so today I decided I'd had enough, got home about 12:30 and decided I'd give the car the clean of it's life, spent just over 3 hours on it, started off with a snowfoam, then the 2bm and dried off, next off was poorboys black hole glaze which is great stuff IMO, then some ex sealant, then wax and tyre dressing etc, the car looks great right now but come tomorrow it will look dirty again, I think I'm ready to sell it and buy a different colour lol, anyhow here's some pics
My plan was to clean it and take a drive to get some nice pics but I'm that fooked now I can't be bothered Last edited by furryhobnob on Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:49 am; edited 1 time in total

I've got the same problem with my dark blue BMW. My silver Fabia I could wash once a week. But the BMW gets dirty just hours after washing it. So I don't wash it as often

#8: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:08 am ---- Yeah the red badge went on a couple of days ago, I'm not liking it either I'm trying to source a silver one again, I did think about going black but as the rest of the car is that colour thought it might be a bot overkill?! And I think I'm gonna follow you mate and not bother cleaning it, I hate driving around in it when it's dirty!
#9: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Swordfish, Location: The NetherlandsPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:10 am ---- Hmm i know what you mean. You also see all the little scratches on black paint Next to the black paint i also have superturismo alloys, now thats hard to keep clean, with all the brake dust
#10: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:10 am ---- Your right Harry it is sexy when it's clean, trouble is it only stays clean for about 5 minutes! Lol

i made the same mistake with the roof on my car im gonna get that resprayed along with my other white bits
#15: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Jordan_xsi, Location: IpswichPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:15 am ---- Nice work mate looks good! Black is indeed harder to keep looking clean but its harder to get a nice wet finish from silver.

#20: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Jay794, Location: Sheffield/Chesterfield/DronfieldPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:29 am ---- Black cars are easiest to keep clean because they hide the dirt, white and silver are the worst because silver looks dirty all the time

Not at all, black cars look much dirty than lighter cars. However black cars will hide tar spots better
#23: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:40 am ---- Cheers E5GDM the badge will be replaced soon, and black definately doesn't hide dirt, my silver gti hid dirt alot
#24: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Lewis, Location: Isle Of WightPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:55 am ---- absolute pigs arent they they look amazing when clean, until you see all the dents and scratches from trees, bushes and other careless buggers on the road!
Car looks sexy mate, get it lowered and lose the mud flaps i recon
#25: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Missy, Posted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:58 am ---- Its looking good though :] I know what you mean, I spend a whole weekend cleaning mine (With the help of Ste sometimes) and it gets dirty within the night just from being parked near my front door! It's due for a clean now but it can wait til after USC.
#26: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 9:58 am ---- Lowering is next on the list Lewis, I like the mudflaps though, whoever had the car before me sprayed them and they're looking a little worse for wear, will respray them properly pretty soon
#27: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:01 am ---- Cheers missy

#28: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: JordGJ, Location: Leeds / West MidlandsPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:06 am ---- even my white car is easier to keep looking nice than my old black one, would avoid black cars in future unless its a weekend/2nd car
your's looks awesome clean though
#29: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:07 am ---- Cheers jordgj I agree black cars are an absolute pig to keep looking nice, won't be buying a black car ah gain that's for sure! Lol
#30: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: E5GDM, Location: EssexPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:22 am ---- Black (normaly) has more 'depth' to it, so like a mirror it shows up the dirt & blemishes far more than a 'flatter' less deep colour like white or silver. Hence it's harder to keep (properly) clean a dark colour. A lot of people, I think, get confused with 'hiding' the dirt & keeping or getting a car looking really 'clean nice & shiny' Last edited by E5GDM on Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:33 am; edited 1 time in total
#31: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Jay794, Location: Sheffield/Chesterfield/DronfieldPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:29 am ---- My girlfriends black 306 always looked clean when it was dirty, I was amazed how much dirt came off it when it used to get jet washed. My silver 206 though, as soon as it's been washed, if I drive anywhere in it, I instantly get tar marks and dirt on the arch near the indicators
#32: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:31 am ---- Yeah I would say that's the only gripe I had with my silver gti, the tar marks were visible, nothing some autoglym tar remover couldn't get rid of though

Nonsense... nice contradiction too. If silver looked dirty all the time then it wouldn't need cleaning as it'd still look dirty even after
I suppose you'd swear green was gold too....

Author: Jay794, Location: Sheffield/Chesterfield/DronfieldPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:48 am ---- It's not a contradiction Ali, What I mean is after a week of driving to work my car looks way dirtier than my girlfriends 306 used to and we both drove similar distances every day.

#38: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Jordan_xsi, Location: IpswichPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:40 am ---- If your car gets as dirty as you say then id suggest the Zaino system, it claims to repel dirt and dust because of its anti-static ability
#39: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:50 am ---- Sounds interesting jordan, how much and where can you get it done?
#40: Re: Wish I'd never bought a black car!! Author: Jordan_xsi, Location: IpswichPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 12:03 pm ---- You do it yourself or find a local detailer that uses their products. You can buy it all from Cleanyourcar.co.uk, they have kits already made up of everything you would want. Its the Z-2 that is claimed to repel dirt but they say its best to use the whole system so products bond correctly.
The Zaino finishing kit is £60 which has the products you need or you can get the show car kit which includes shampoo and clay which is £85 if you need them.

Black is far, far, worse than Silver to keep clean, I clean my car, and do all the usual finishing on it, within 2 days the roof (Black) is ready for another clean whereas the rest of the car (Silver) is still looking nice and shiney..
Although I have to agree, Black is sooo much easier to get a wet look and depth with than silver.. Cant have the best of both though eh?
