#1: rear suspension soft Author: jaybooooi, Location: walesPosted: Sat Jul 30, 2011 2:16 am ---- Hey everyone , need a bit of help my rear suspension is really soft, I know its the torsion bars on the rear, I have already put uprated shocks on the rear,this did not seem to help but this did not seem to help, is there anyway I can adjust the rear setup to get more torsion out of the bars or shall I get uprated bars thanks

Dampers don't reduce bodyroll, they don't decrease lift at the rear under braking. Uprated springs/torsion bars can achieve these things.
You can shocks that are rock solid you really don't need uprated torsion bars for road use. Just get some stiffer shocks.

That was completely going off the point, I'm assuming the OP wanted to use it just for road use and going mainly on the statement 'I fitted aftermarket shocks and it didn't make a difference'
If you fitted new shocks and you didn't notice the difference between them and oem I think it's logical to invest in different shocks, not go onto torsion bars.
Keeping it nice and simple, not getting into an engineering debate.

Try for a start uprate your ARB with the GTi 180 ARB, that made a huge differece on my car.
The rear suspension became stiffer in corners, and it reduced bodyroll.
It was a big difference and very noticeable even on my old shocks.
