Ape's Leon Cupra R 225 *SOLD*
-> Project Cars

#1: Ape's Leon Cupra R 225 *SOLD* Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex! PostPosted: Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:19 pm
    ----
I sold my 206 on the 27th July 2009, exactly 4 years (to the day) after I bought it brand new from the Dealer in Worcester.

I was hunting for a decent Evo 5 and after having one sold from under my nose (literally) I joked about buying my friends Leon. A few weeks later it was mine Shocked Got a stupidly good price on it and could easily get a couple of grand more than what I paid for it, which would make for a nice Evo 6, but it would be a bit harsh on my good friend if I made that kind of money on him Laughing

So.... Here is my new Project:

2006 SEAT Leon Cupra R 225 (BAM Engine)
Lowered 30mm rear, 20mm front on AP Coilovers
Fast Road Geometry Setup (Negative Camber all round and Corner Weighted)
Standard 18"s painted Megane R26R Red
Grooved EBC Disks and Ferodo DS2500 Premier Pads
Polished Boost Pipes and Manifold
TurboSmart Dualport Dump Valve (Recirc)
Private Plates (3/4 size front plate)
Obligitary Pole-Position Sticker on the Tailgate
Rear Wiper Conversion
Front Aero Wipers Fitted

I had to clean the Engine a bit when I first got him:
Before Gearbox Clean

After Clean:

General Clean Engine

Arty Car Park Shots:

Next up:
CamBelt, Waterpump, Tensioner Pulley and Pulley Damper Change
Full Service (Oil, Plugs, Filters, Grease up etc)
Brake Fluid changed for 5.1 DOT

I'm off to the Nurburgring in April for a week or so, and when I get back he'll have another Service, followed by:
3" Downpipe
Sports / Racing CAT
3" Blueflame System
Stage 2 / Custom Map.

Which should get him to the 280bhp mark, with even more torque Razz

Happy Days!

Love the wheels on it. Knew they would suit it from the photoshop.

You doing any more styling changes to it, or is all performance from here on in?

I thought about getting it done before the trip, but to be honest... I've only just started pushing it to its limits over the last couple of weeks. I only use it weekends, so learning its characteristics have taken me longer than normal. It's one hell of a jump from the Pug, lift off oversteer is still good fun, but happens at much higher speeds because it is so well planted. I would like to get used to it's standard power and with a weeks worth of solid driving I'll achieve that easily. Then I'll get the work done and go back in the summer (hopefully!) and see the difference Very Happy

I'd like to do a Red, Silver and Carbon Theme. The "S" Badges will be done in red, a carbon splitter, red engine hoses (Forge or Samco) and carbon dressy bits. But thats a long way off, I want the performance first, the tarting up is the last phase Very Happy

Oh, I almost forgot - I'll be getting a Liquid Gauge for it too, shows Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost, G Force, Fault codes etc, fits in the air vent and has full diagnostics etc. Fits neatly in the Drivers side Air Vent:

Cheers for the comments all, the wheels are fantastic Razz lol. A real Marmite Modification Laughing

Bit of a quick update,

Cambelt and Service is all done now (thanks again to Clarks in Kidderminster, top service, top communication, good price and generally exceptionally professional). The LCR was waxed again today (including the wheels), glass / interior done and polished. And the old corroded and crusty R badges were replaced. Also changed the black Pole-Positon Stickers to Red.

Waxed:

R Badges:

Old and New Badges together

Meep with Akimbo Hairdriers Cool

Old Badge Removed

Quick bit of polishing to remove old residue and crud

Nice and new and shiny

Pictures taken with my iPhail Laughing

liquid guage looks like a nice piece of kit like, it's just a pity the only option is for the window side vent

#31: Re: Ape's SEAT Leon Cupra R 225 Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex! PostPosted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:14 am

It depends, if you're handy with fibreglass it can be mounted anywhere. Some people have adapted it for the middle vents also, along with ashtray mounting etc.

I don't use the drivers vent that much to be honest, there's a window demister vent built into the top of the dash which does the trick.

it wasn't cheap like! reader was £140 and the app was about £23...

Yep, he's right, it provides useless nerd info, such as when your oil temperature is sufficient so you can open it up without damaging anything, or you can find out the oil temperatures reached when used properly (on track etc). Boost Pressure readings so you can see if there are any leaks or problems. Fault codes that may crop up without illuminating the EML etc. Air/Fuel Ratio so you can monitor if its leaning out too much etc. Pretty Useless to be honest.

The full list is a couple of posts up....

Ashtray and Cigarette Lighter removed for Access

Under the Dash

Lower dash panel removed and vent removed ready to receive Gauge

Wire Aperture cut through vent duct, and Wire threaded through

All hooked up and ready to go into final position

Gauge Connected up and ready to go in

Tidying the OBDII Wires using the Fuse/Relay Plate and another bracket which holds something else Laughing

Gauge Fitted and Powered up insitu Very Happy

It took a fair bit of sanding, and removing the vent slat's wasn't too pretty. I used some of the bubblewrap packing as a heatshield in the vent and packed it tight. The Gauge is brilliant, accurate and easy to use. Bhp measured at 230bhp, with torque at 234lb ft, will see at the P Torque Rolling Road day how it compares against a Rolling Road etc. Boost peaked at 16.something psi, oil temperature stayed at around 90. The only fault code I got was regarding the N249 which I've bypassed so no problems there. My only gripe with it is the multi graph - seems to have a problem with it and after a short while it resets its communication due to an error. Being able to reset the Throttle Body through it is a nice touch also.

All in all, very pleased with it, not too hard to install and it isn't too distracting whilst driving either. Top product! Very Happy

Cheers bud. Having the computer in the air vent I've found is better than having gauges going up the A-pillar as it's got multiple gauges all in one unit. Looks neat as well and will reset the throttle body, the bhp and torque readings I'd say were accurate to within a couple of %, it lets you read and clear fault codes and lets you do MAF adaption as well. All usefull stuff Very Happy

#49: Re: Ape's SEAT Leon Cupra R 225 *Liquid Gauge Fitted* Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex! PostPosted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 6:41 am
    ----
Because the Liquid Gauge is capable of reading VAG engines up to 500bhp, it needs to accommodate for the different MAF's and pipework people use when running that sort of power.

If you use an intake pipe with a bigger bore than standard, the volume of air passing the MAF will be greater. If you don't tell the gauge then it will calculate based on standard pipes. There's a bit of a formula you use to work out what the MAF adaption should be, it's all in the manual Smile

Cheers lads,

I've been getting more into the inner workings of it of late, some of the info it gives you is brilliant. The 0-60 timing is accurate as well, have yet to test the 0-100 though!

current 0-60 I've nailed down to 6.2 seconds, that was with too much wheelspin, will need to hone that a bit Laughing

Exhaust temperatures surprised me, when all warmed up and happily bundling along they 600degrees C +! giving it beans takes it over 800degrees C! Shocked

I've had to buy a few bits for travelling to the Ring which is fast approaching, including some paint Sad as one of the spokes has a chip on it from a stone, should be finished painting it by the end of tonight. Itching to get the exhaust and remap done now though Laughing - Front Mount Intercooler (sprayed black to stop it drawing attention) is on the cards too Very Happy

Laughing

The normal routine is:
Key in ignition,
Turn on LG,
Check Fault Codes
Reset Throttle Body
Select Oil Temp, drive until Oil Temp is at normal operating temperature (about 85degrees C), with brief checks of intake temps whilst the oil warms up
Once warm, Select Boost and off we go Laughing

I'll flick between various screens whilst driving, but you can do it without looking, and then reading the info is the same as looking at the speedo etc. I use Boost Pressure, Oil Temp and AFR the most, and sometimes jump to the Bhp / Torque Calc, and occasionally the 0-60 timer Laughing

The new tyres are brilliant. They don't hop like the P Zero Nero Rosso's that were on it previously, they scuff a bit and then dig in without bouncing the front of the car. They look pretty cool too Laughing Haven't really tested the grip at the moment, didn't want to get the car mucky again after just cleaning it Razz

The wheels are all good mate. I know the guys at the tyre place so they set to work on it, they changed various bits of kit on the machines to plastic and rubber to prevent damage, they used sockets that had an outer shield on them so that the inside spins but not the outerpart, they also removed and refitted by hand to stop any damage. Took a while but was worth it, they filled them with nitrogen as well for me too.

Can you tell much difference with the Nitrogen? Ive heard good things as it prolongs tyre life and still feels more comfortable?

Andy - They're in a different league to P Zero's. £90 each with free delivery Very Happy

Hilly - not yet to be honest, although it went from the Tyre fitter straight back to be washed. I scrubbed them up a bit and the tyres weren't warm, but whether it's me being too gentle with it or whether its the nitrogen I couldn't tell.

I'll use Rockingham (FCS) as a benchmark, they started melting a bit with the 206 when I took Seb round last year. I did push it a bit too hard there though Laughing I'll taking the Leon round and see what happens (taking into account the power difference, weight difference etc).

Carol - Cheers! Very Happy It's a marmite car Laughing

Where did J find the photo's of him on track? I didn't have any taken of mine on track (that I know of) but I bumped into some chaps with camera's in areas where you're not supposed to be so wonder if they upload them etc Laughing

Next performance mods are:
Forger Front Mount Intercooler
3" Blueflame Turbo Back System (with Motorsport Cat)
Custom Remap.

They'll be done before FCS hopefully, I need to rejig my money and sort my priorities out again first though.

Not sure yet matey, I'll be fitting the pads in the morning, and getting them bedded in. Depending on that, and other things that are happening saturday will be determining my weekend. I'll catch you on msn / fb chat and explain pal.

#111: Re: Ape's SEAT Leon Cupra R 225 *New Brakes* Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex! PostPosted: Sat May 15, 2010 2:06 pm
    ----
After a few weeks between purchasing, and actually getting round to it, the new pads and fluid were fitted today Very Happy Since boiling them at Combe, they've been very iffy under use and the pads had generated quite a bit of braking wobble, which I thought were warped discs. The old pads still at a few mm on them but I thought I'd try the cheap (gulp) option and replace the pads, which were £130 to buy.

Another job on the list was to replace the brake fluid. I was originally going to use Super4 DOT Brake Fluid but found some Halfords DOT 5.1 fluid which exceeds the spec of 5.1 etc etc. Not the best make of Brake Fluid, but more than adequate and it will be changed every 6 months or so anyway.

Following this, I decided it would be a good idea to change the oil and filter, I have always changed the oil on my cars after 5,000 miles (apart from my company car!) and its normally pretty clean. The LCR however came out a bit black so... A few more 5k oil changes should change that though!

Finally, we needed to see what was causing my front wheels to work their way loose. They needed tightening at Combe, and at the Nurburgring. After a bit of deliberation we've worked out that the powdercoating on the wheels is to blame. The Wheelbolts are radiused, and need metal to metal contact with the wheel to secure them. The powdercoat is preventing this fully, and when it gets hot and expands, the normal virbation etc is working them loose. We've torqued them up properly for now but will be rectifying this next week with a dremel. We'll also be sorting the rear pads and discs with new ones when they arrive during next week.

Oh oh... AND I bought some 5mm spacers for the rear as the wheels always seemed to be a bit too recessed in the arches. Might buy some front ones too but we'll see

Looks much better now, will report back on any handling improvement, although widening the track should make some difference.

Expensive... Must remember is Smiles per Gallon, not Miles per Gallon! (repeat until you believe it!)

It's lowered 30mm all round, but the LCR is lower than other Leon's as standard anyway but about 20-30mm I believe. So its down a fair bit! Laughing Could go more but it's not that practical as it is!

I think the bracket is part of the hub mate, didn't check to be honest but will do next time the wheels are off. I'm pretty sure they're just standard 312mm discs bud. I'll be refurbing the calipers soon as well, silver and black Very Happy

We sorted the rear brakes yesterday Very Happy

We also figured that the wheel bolts undoing themselves at speed was due to the Powercoating preventing proper contact between the Wheels and Bolt Seats, we removed this and I've spent today out on a "spirited" drive and everything's tight Very Happy

Fuel of Champions! (Or Chumpians?!), work shouldn't start without on, especially on a Saturday! Laughing

Techie sorting out my wheel loosening issue. Removing powdercoating from the Bolt Seats

Nah, the front discs are from Badger 5, as are the front pads. The rears are OEM from a mate of mine at a SEAT Dealer.

But not for long...you not tempted to spray some silver hammerite on the vents and hub part? It lasts forever and doesn't burn off. Keeps them looking brand new. Otherwise they rust straight away.

After fcs (maybe before if I can be arsed) the calipers on the front will be silver with black brembo decals, rears will be done in silver and that'll be it. More into driving it than tarting it up if I'm honest

Yep, they needed a refurb. A joke and impulse choice led to them being that colour (much like many's first child!). It's better than following the trend of keeping them a standard colour, or anthracite, or black *yawn*.

Putting what I said BACK into context... I'd rather spend more time driving it and enjoying it than being anal about things that don't really matter.

Cheers bud. The 206 was a test run of modifying I think, the leon is having much much more research done before any modifications are carried out.

They are mate, until you rock your car and the marshmellows for tyres you've got keep it rocking for a fair while after Laughing

Small update Very Happy

Whilst I'm working away from home in the week, a friend needed a car as his was going to Forge Motorsport for a few bits  so I let him borrow my LCR. Not something I'd normally do but he was a bit stuck and is a SEAT Master Technician so he gave it a going over whilst he had it. Aaaand sorted out the badges for me and replaced my centre caps too Very Happy

Seb and Hilla popped over today to clean the cars / have lowering springs fitted / strip weight from my LCR and generally a**e about for the day Razz thanks for coming round guys, was good fun!!

Anyway, enough talk, more photo's!

New Centre Caps

No rear trim / interior

Front is still mostly in though. this will be sorted in the near future

Shots of new badges / general redness Razz

Alot of people say about removing rear seats etc being completely pointless. But, we removed the rear bench and backrests, a few bits of plastic trim, seatbelts and seatbelt clips, spare wheel and jack / emergency kit and not much else... Saved 55.3 Kg's. It's helped me locate a new rattle which appears to be the top mount for the rear suspension, a minor thing that will be sorted next week and has helped me pinpoint an annoying boot rattle. The exhaust soundtrack is much better and it does feel a little quick to accelerate (although this could just be because its noisier now!). Feels like my 206 handling wise (not a bad thing), but alot quicker Razz

Make no mistake, its a bit lardy Laughing weighing it at about 1350kg standard compared to my 206's 1020kg, but it does have better handling, accelaration and braking power. Just need to get it down a bit more Laughing the 207's lardy too in comparision (1270kg I've found?)

I've decided the route I'll be taking with this project too. Twisted Evil

I got on really well with it, I'm going back later in the year after I've done a few decent modifications to see if I can improve my time. Got under the 10minute barrier on my second lap which I was happy with. Kept up with a new GTR for a bit on there too Laughing Got overtaken by the 'Ring Taxi (507bhp M5 anyone?) lol. I've found a few pics that were taken of Shed and I at Rockingham the other weekend Very Happy

The track is easier than I remember, I'll upload the vids soon too Very Happy Shed performed well although it did feel a little flat sometimes, could be that I've got used to it though now?

The tyres started giving up before the brakes which was nice Laughing still think I need to up the brakes capability some more though. I'm a bit torn about where to focus next between Power and Handling.

Power Upgrades:
Blueflame Turbo Back Exhaust with Motorsport Cat
Forge FMIC
Forge Turbo Intake Pipe and Charge Pipes
Remap
Uprated Engine Mounts (all 3)

Handling Upgrades:
Neuspeed 28mm rear Anti Roll Bar (On Order £250ish)
S3 Front Upper Strut Brace
R32 Front ARB
Adjusted Geometry Setup
Polybushes all round

I'll probably go for a mix of the two

Very highly mate. I went B Road Blasting through the Lake District at the weekend and it held me to the seat just as well as a harness would, it clamps around your lap and stops lateral and vertical movement so when we managed to get air I was still in control when we landed without being thrown around. Too much money?! You're kidding right? Rolling On The Floor Laughing

My catchcan was £30 delivered, I then had to buy some hosing to plumb it in. The can has a mark or two on it but I'm going to try and polish it out at the weekend.

I can't get discount on the CG Lock, they're on a Buy It Now on eBay most of the time, but they also put them up for auction now and again so keep your eye out and get a bargain.

The engine mounts are to sort out the mental amount of engine movement that occurs under load. The engine moves a good few inches and I get a fair bit of wheel hop. By stiffening the mounts the wasted power used in turning the engine on it's mounts will be put back into turning the wheels more like it should in the first place. I'll get more vibration in the cabin I think, but I'm not fussed with that. The vibratechnics mounts are about the best around too.

I've got another £1300 or so to go before I get to where I want to be. Loads of people go on about stage 2 being th exhaust, remap and fmic but they often overlook the handling side of things, I don't want to have all the extra power and not apply it to the bends!

UPDATE y0! I was going to fit the ARB only today on my driveway, but luckily the super secret Pp Garage was free so I spent the afternoon there with the lads fitting the bits and pieces Very Happy

Fitted the NeuSpeed 28mm Rear Anti Roll Bar today. It's transformed the car no end, the rear is so lively yet so planted as well. Great fun on the twisties!

Forge TIP was also fitted Very Happy

Catch Tank fitted as well Very Happy I blocked the Breather pipe to the TIP and it's vented through the bottom of the sub frame

We quickly fitted a new Splitter to freshen it up

And the Tow Strap first fitment that Techie made up for me Very Happy

(will be revised slightly soon)

Very Happy Happy days!

Next up, I'm going to spray the Forge FMIC matt black and then add the red Forge logo to it afterwards Very Happy

The Pug was a draft run of what I wanted to do with a car. It just wasn't powerful enough to be anything really good. This one is a better base platform to work from. I'm sorting the handling first, but doing it properly. Most people settle for a set of springs and shocks, but they only give a miniscule improvement. If you replace everything, bushes, ARB's, links etc then it compliments the whole set up. I'll be fitting the power modifications next, and will then get the alignment changed from fast road to track orientated, and then get it corner weighted too to maximise the work done.

Cheers pal, just did a bit more tarting up today. I hate seeing Intercoolers on fronts of cars being really bright silver and cheap looking... so:

The FMIC is now sprayed up and ready for fitting. I didn't want it to be obvious behind the grill, so I've painted it matt black and because I'm a complete spastic at spraying, Hilla did the logo for me Very Happy (cheers pal). It now looks like this:

that's fairly cheap Ape, considering a full system for a supermoto is an easy £800+! lol

is it just the standard exhaust on it at the moment yeh?

what sort of figures are you aiming for with this lot then? 300+?

It's not bad, they retail at some places for over a grand Shocked which is mental.

It's the standard system at the moment aye, it isn't that bad but as always, there's better out there.

After the exhaust and remap, it should be near the 300bhp and I dunno what the torque will be, should be well over 300lb ft. I'll have the handling to make sure its not just quick in a straight line.

I'm pleased for you.

Additionally, the black is to keep it subtle and out of view, and the Forge logo is because of some favours that they've done for me.

Got to agree that big intercoolers on show sticking out the front like a pair of goofy teeth do look a bit naff. Painting it black to hide it looks much better.

Intercoolers on show look stupid unless the car is designed with that 'rough' look. The more that's hidden/OEM looking, the better it looks I think.

I'm not a huge fan of 'tarting up' as you put it, so the only things I have done to mine is the front V and badges, which enchances the overall look. But going OTT makes it looks shoddy and overworked.

Look forward to seeing how it evolves Ad.

Car is going back to Labtap on Thursday to have the wheel finish looked at as I'm not happy with it, looks like Heat Fatigue so we'll see, may end up getting them redone completely.

The FMIC is going on next Friday, along with the Engine mounts and Polybushes if we have time. Priority is the FMIC for the day though. The Exhaust will go on as soon as it arrives, with the remap being booked at the earliest opportunity after it's fitted.

I'm aiming to get it ready for Trax, so we'll see. Kinda difficult when I'm 100miles away from it during the week so I can't work on it in the evenings.

Another update
Today we got busy again and fitted the Forge Motorsport FMIC, changed the oil and filter, sorted a wheel, fitted the R8 Oil cap, changed the engine mounts and polybused the lower mount, all in all a good days work

FMIC Fitting:

FMIC Ghost:

R8 Oil Cap:

Engine Mounts and Polybush fitting:

The Engine Mounts have made such a difference, the car vibrates a little more which I was expecting and don't mind. I didn't expect the sloppiness of the engine putting power down to be as dramatically reduced as it has been by the Vibratechnics and Powerflex combo. It's fantastic!

I've not had chance to test the FMIC just yet, although the car sounds different on startup and seems to growl a fair bit more which I like.

Happy days!

Next up, fit the exhaust when it arrives, and then get him mapped. Followed by a Autotech Wavetrac ATB Cool

Mattie, I think it does. Forge seem to think so (but they would wouldn't they?). No increase in Turbo Lag, and the inlet temperatures are down by quite a lot to be honest so I'd imagine so.

it will cool the IAT so the air is more dense and give a better burn.

without mapping it might give a noticable power gain, but with it installed a remap can make better use of it. Smile

The new exhaust we fitted yesterday, I was a bit sceptical of the gains or difference it would make, but it's impressive to say the least. Full 3" system from the Turbo to the Tip, 100cell Cat and all lovely mandrel bent stainless steel pipework.

The Spool up is much sooner and happens more freely, the boost is stronger and the power delivery is much improved. I need to renew the clips / clamps along the inlet pipework now as I blew two hoses off last night Laughing

I'll take some video's of it later, but for now here are some pics Smile

Eh up!!

Had the car remapped today Very Happy

The ECU had to be removed because of a Revo Trial Map that was on it previously removed some of the memory banks required to enable mapping. Once this was done and dusted a few runs on the Rolling Road and a bit of tweaking saw the Leon reach 285bhp and 318lb ft which I'm happy with considering the ambient temperature was in the low 30's!.

The acceleration is a little savage now Laughing I was grinning from ear to ear all the way home, just hoping the roads dry out a bit so I can have a go tonight. Spinning up well into 4th Gear on a damp road doesn't make for fun driving Laughing

Massive thanks to Will @ Performance Torque who did the work, highly recommended Very Happy

It's... taking some getting used to. In the wet forget letting the turbo spool because the tyres just light up. It's so responsive now compared to before, and fuel consumption isn't that much more either. My face is aching from grinning so much. I think that'll do for now with the power side of things, need to get on with the cage and polycarb windows and remaining weight loss Very Happy

I may do, near 300bhp and over 300lb ft is what I was expecting and I'm happy with it for the time being, would like to concentrate on handling / stopping a little better now. To hit the 450 mark is mega money that seems a bit of a waste in a FWD car. In the wet the first 4 (nearly 5) gears are useless as soon as the turbo spools up, combination of tyres and power I've got. Even in the dry it will spin in first and second (without dumping the clutch) when the turbo comes in.

Mattie - cheers bud, I'll be on track twice at Trax, and twice at Castle Combe the week after Very Happy

It's nearly where I want it to be, just need to sort a few more bits, namely handling modifications and modifications to help get the power down a little better Very Happy

Cheers bud,

It doesn't look anything special, and it won't do at a show like Trax. I'm taking it there because I've not done Silverstone before, and it's not been on track since I've done all the work to it. Should be interesting!

I was only having 1 session and taking a passenger round... But then a certain Dillon bought another session so we could go round again Rolling On The Floor Laughing good man! Very Happy

Car's all ready for Trax now Very Happy

2 New Tyres ready to destroy tomorrow Laughing
New MOT, although the bloke tried to fail me on:
Number plate too small
Left and right indicators were white (although they're the same bulbs they left the factory with)
Tyre Tread too low (although the brand new tyres were sat next to the car and awaiting fitting by them)

Talk about a jobsworth. All sorted now though Very Happy

ha ha, aye, it was reduced from over £400 so couldn't complain! It should be able to withstand it. Its a suction mount from eBay that I've taken to bits, and then some hollow black aluminium from B&Q with some U Bolts and a couple of nuts. Bolted to the seat so should be ok.

The old camcorder cut out mid session mate, will see what I can retrieve (if anything) and post it up. That second session was the best of the two, gave the tyres a good scrubbing and the oil a good heat up (147*c Shocked ). Oil cooler next methinks

I've made another camera mount for the HD Camcorder now. Looks a little like a strut brace across the back of the car (bad times), but doesn't vibrate or wobble as much as my first attempt (good times). Bit more refining and it should be good to get some decent footage Very Happy

Current wishlist is:
Aluminium sheet for underneath the car (aerodyamics / cooling)
Wavetrac ATB differential and Gearbox refurb
Rollcage (size tbc)
Polycarb windows
Battery relocation
Recaro Pole-Position seats (or similar)
Finish stripping interior
Fuel prices to come down Laughing 7mpg on track is fun, but means I run out of fuel too quickly!! Laughing

6000k bud. Decent white light output, much better than the standard bulbs, the ballasts weigh about 10grams each too. For the European Road Trips and general fast road driving the light upgrade is well worth doing.

Surprising how easy they are to fit nowadays isn't it?

Only took me about 15 mins putting my set on the MGF, 6000k as well. Best choice.

The Brake Judder has nearly gone, whether I've worn the warped part of the disc away, or by some miracle managed to straighten it out through a clever braking talent I never knew I had, who knows!

But... I think its getting near the time to change the brakes, especially with the 'Ring and other Track Days / Road Trips looming. So it's only right to upgrade as we go. I'll be getting a 2 piece floating setup Twisted Evil goodbye fade!

Current Braking Shopping List:
RBF660 fluid
Goodridge Braided Lines
330mm AP Racing Rotors
Badger 5 5x100 LCR Bells
Badger 5 Carriers
Brake Pads are TBC, either Carbotech XP8 Pads, Ferodo DS3000's or EBC Redstuff Pads.

With upping the power and the handling, I thought the standard 4 pot brakes with some better pads and discs would suffice. But after getting a fair bit of fade during track use I need to upgrade as they just get too hot and the fluid boils too. With this setup, the fluid's boiling point is much higher than current, the pads are up for more of a beating, the rotors stay cooler, and the setup is lighter than standard.

Just need to find some 17" lightweight wheels that will fit over them and paint them stupid red too! Very Happy

Cheers bud, it's entertaining to say the least! Can be a bit of a handful but all good fun. It's nice suprising cars that should be much quicker too Razz

The weekend saw a quick clean, changed the front bushes to polybushes and ordered a new ABS sensor to cure the fault it's decided it would like to keep for a while.

Just priced the brake setup up properly:

    330x28 Rotors - £149 each...............£298.00
    bolt kit - £13.95/disk set.........................£ 27.90
    caliper spacer brackets - £8 each............£ 16.00
    Optional DS3000 padupgrade - £129........£ 129.00
    RBF660/500ml - £12.99..........................£ 25.98
    VAT......................................................£ 99.38
    Carraige...............................................£ 9.50

    Bargins:
Ally Bells, £80 for the pair, delivered....£ 80.00 (instead of £75+VAT Each)
Braided Lines, Front and Rear..............£ 57.00
    TOTAL................................................£685.76

  • Need to order it all soon as i've only got a couple of mm on the pads currently.

I may be able to get the spacers thrown in with the Ally Bells, will have to see Very Happy

    Cheers bud,

Aye, took it last year but it was almost standard, with just coilies, tyres, brake pads, open filter and dump valve. was about 228bhp and 234lb ft.

This time round it's a bit more powerful, has better handling, slightly lighter (I've lost 4 stone and the car about 60kg) and better brakes. Should make it more interesting Razz

I've been a tw*t and spent more money Confused

This time on nothing performance related
A glovebox liner so I can remove the standard 6CD Changer that lives in there doing nothing
A box of gadgets so I can fool the stereo into thinking my iPod is the CD Changer
Associated wiring so I no longer have to use a FM transmitter to listen to my music. Only downside is - it won't charge my iPod so I'll need to sort an in car charger for it and hardwire that in too.

I guess it is performance related, removing the weight of the changer Laughing

Purchase plans for the year (after the Solicitors stop pulling my pants down):

    Wavetrac Differential
    New Seats & Harnesses
    Oil Cooler
    Battery Relocation Kit

Not sure if it does, but the oil temperature was hitting high 140°c around silverstone @ 280bhp, so will need a serious upgrade any how.

Yes they do, it's plumbed in with the Heater Matrix. Does the job well on a standard engine, but when you start doing work and the oil temp's rise, it struggles to cope. A Mocal Cooler kit is about £185 and gets plumbed in behind the "S" Badge on the front and I'll be picking an 85*C thermostat plate

    Two times fresh!

The LCR's had an oil and filter change in readiness for the trip, found a fuel leak too Sad new fuel filter soon sorted that. The old one was possibly the original I think, there was flammable mud coming from both ends of it! for £3 it's definitely worth changing regularly!

Yesterday I found my Y piece (oil breather) had split, luckily I found a T piece and some tubing I never used. A little bit of Bodgineering later and that was sorted too!

The first of a couple of deliveries have arrived this morning, with more to come hopefully! Mad fitting session before we head off at 10pm tonight!

Rough mockup of the basic design

Haha, it was good last year Twisted Evil I'm glad they allow any car on the track. I've got an extra bit of power and handling over previous too Very Happy It'll be good fun. Bringing a friend and his BMW M5 as well Twisted Evil he needs to kill off his tyres so expect to see some sideways action too with him (all safe and out the way of the pack of course). I hope there's some surprises from the Frenchies this year, last year it was a bit tame.

I may well be doing Trax, depends if it clashes with the Nurburgring trip we may be doing. If it doesn't, and you get a session booked, I'll take you round Wink Had a good time on the new GP Circuit last year Very Happy

Small update today, the "Shed" passed it's MOT with no advisories (I even left the HID's in!), although it's shopping list for the next few months is:

Oil Cooler (140*c oil temps are NOT good)
4 New Tyres (May have a change from the Parada's but we'll see)
    Badger 5 TIP v2
    Get graphics redone properly.
    New DS3000 Pads

    To do:
Sell standard parts when I get round to it, SMIC's, Downpipe, Splash guards, Air Box and some other things.
Find somewhere to store the Interior now Mrs. Ape has moved in
Get the idea of breaking it for parts and build a locost kitcar with the 20v engine from my LCR out of my head thanks to another thread on here!

    Only a small update.

Went to Castle Combe this weekend just gone, it was a washout but not a bad day. It was also the last outing for the LCR for a while. It's now SORN'd and sat outside the house. I'm not cracking on with the project because the money I should be saving goes into fuel for it so nothing's being done Laughing With it being off the road it'll stop me from driving it instead of working on it Laughing

Shame you've had to SORN it to do more work!! You'll hate not been able to drive it.

Aye tell me about it! I'll be pulling all of the interior out soon, I know I'll want to drive it if I sit in the Drivers Seat!

I think the TIP and Airbox will fit all 1.8T's based on the Mk4 chassis (might have to check TT etc). The Tip may have a slightly bigger diameter at the MAF & Turbo end to suit the larger LCR sizes but nothing a little tougher clamping down wouldn't sort!

Tbh though, having the VX off road since basically last November has given the grand sum of zero motivation to do anything at all to it.

    Well, things have changed (again!).

Fed up of Tyre Kickers and Time Wasters, the LCR is getting back on the road. MOT, Insurance and Tax sorted over the last couple of days. It's currently off with A&E Automotive to have a bit of an Overhaul and it will be back for some use this year!

Whilst it's ok for the Road, before it goes back on Track it will need:

    New Tyres (£500)
    New Rotors (£360)
    New Pads (£180)

It's already having Coolant, Oil, Brake Fluid and all Filters changed today or tomorrow and then when money permits, the upgrades will be incoming Very Happy

    Happy Days!

Hi Ad Waving o/ - yeah, I'm good thanks bud.
I'm still in the Golf GT TSI 160 (it's 3 years old now) - I sold the 205 CTi 1.9 last year to an enthusiast (PSCUK/PSOOC member) who's spent the past 5 months restoring it Laughing

    Good stuff!

3 Years has certainly flown by, I remember when you took delivery of that!

The LCR went to a good friend and will be kept local (and you may see me driving it around from time to time). The plates will be going on a car I bought for the other half temporarily, and will then be transferred again to the new project. It will have a similar colour scheme to the LCR, minus the graphics (probably Laughing ) )

Good to see you're still knocking around though Very Happy

... especially being in my 90's Laughing (j/k!)

I still keep popping back to the same old forums I used to - 206info, psooc/pscuk, 205gtidrivers, uk-mkivs.net, briskoda, scoobynet, that local jap forum - way too many in fact Rolling Eyes Laughing

I foresee a future of confusion with so many 'APE' tranfers, I hope it finds a permanent home soon! Very Happy

    Laughing

That's a healthy number! I check here, a couple of SEAT and Mazda Forums, the MLR and that's about it. Facebook has killed many forums and with work and stuff I just don't get time anymore Sad

It'll keep people guessing for a while, it'll hopefully end up on something like an S2000 or RX8 but we'll see.
