hi guys,

my dad's 206gti(130) has started being silly, when you turn the car on, without starting, the water temp needle will go to red and back then repeat it one or two more times. while driving the car wont show the actual temp, sits in its off position and every now and again the needle will go from there up to red, the stop sign doesn't come on.it will then go down again. every now and again it will work and show the engine temp( around 80-90 deg)

i have changed the thermostat and the water temp sensor( green one behind the stat) and still no joy.

any ideas? also where are the engine earths?

cheers chris

the is one under the battery from the gearbox to the chassis - this is common. Another behind the right hand headlight, one in the drivers footwell under the door sill behind the carpet. Its worth checking the wiring in the rear lights as well for bad earths and corrosion. Have you changed any lamps in any of the lights prior to this happening?
