#1: Reversing lights work then dont... Author: StephXSi, Location: Mansfield, NottinghamshirePosted: Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:15 pm ---- Well i was reversing onto the garden earlier and i noticed in the reflection of the greenhouse behind me that my reversing lights weren't working, sat for a while putting it back in neutral and then back into reverse and they still weren't working and then all of a sudden they just started working again.
Just been onto the garden to check again and it did the same again, no reverse lights coming on and after about 5 times of putting it in reverse they all of a sudden started working again.
Has anyone ever had this problem before, ive done a quick search on here and only found problems where peoples reverse lights werent working at all.
If it was a fuse or the reversing switch that was at fault then wouldnt the reverse lights just not work at all instead of not working and then all of a sudden working again?
Thanks for any help in advance, oh and i have a 2004 1.6 xsi model if that helps

Disconnect the connector from the gearbox reversing switch, select reverse gear (engine turned off) and using the continuity setting on a multimeter check if the switch is working.
If it's working check to make sure there is current reaching the bulbs. Again using the multimeter (change setting to measure DC 12v) remove one of the bulbs and touch the multimeter probes onto the bulb holder connections. You will need the ignition on and reverse gear selected. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SHORT ANYTHING OUT when doing this stage.
If you have current reaching the bulbs, then check the bulbs themselves haven't blown.

#10: Re: Reversing lights work then dont... Author: StephXSi, Location: Mansfield, NottinghamshirePosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:04 am ---- Would have thought you would have needed your reversing lights working for your mot? Will check the fuse first then check the reversing switch. I've had a look in my manual and can't seem to find which fuse is for the reversing lights? Does it have a fuse for those? My fuse box is underneath the steering wheel if anyone can help me with what fuse I need to check. Thanks guys

Hmmm.. Never knew that. They are one of our daily van checks at work, so presumed that they were. (I knew fogs weren't).
#15: Re: Reversing lights work then dont... Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:19 am ---- Nah, they aren't required by law so are classed as accessory lights and not MOT testable
