#16: Re: Engine Conversion Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:04 pm ---- All GTI 180's are multiplexed so if your car is also multiplexed it will be a lot easier to get the lump running.
Get the VIN number of the car the engine & ecu comes from so you can then get hold of the security code
If you can also grab the BSI unit & the transponder chip.
#17: Re: Engine Conversion Author: kingdom200, Location: Leamington SpaPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:10 pm ---- also easily achievable and easily affordable is two different things....cams fitted.. about £1500 -£2000.....ITB- £2500 - £3000... fully forgeing an engine god knows but even if we say £2000 for arguments sake thats £7000 plus the price of the car... is it really worth it? especially when for that money think of the car you could have...
#18: Re: Engine Conversion Author: JackHinton, Location: Jersey C.IPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:30 pm ---- ill be fitting all this myself, cat cams for 600, jenvey ITB's 1500, pistons 400, can grab an engine for 500 with a gearbox only done 30K then a remap for 400 been estimated at about 295 with the full supersprint system with de cat and induction, plus its a project im looking forward too, but i know what you mean about the car i could get with that money, cheers for the advice
#19: Re: Engine Conversion Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:38 pm ---- sell...your....car...buy...gti 180. Then sell all the bits you don't need from the 180 if you plan on making this a rally car. You can pick a 180 up rather inexpensively.
#20: Re: Engine Conversion Author: greg.mitchell350, Location: Milton KeynesPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 4:11 pm ---- there is a lot of difference but it is all do-able. I started converting my XSI to a GTI but buying a flat took over and it's on hold/maybe breaking. You need a new subframe, anti-roll bar, coolant reservoir and pipes, gear linkages. And that's just of the top of my head. PM if you want any advice, also if your looking for some parts I may have them.
yeah asking if they were ok haha, just an idea, anyone know if they are the same ? just keen on seeing how much break been told easyily over 270 with cams, pistons, throttle bodies and re map

#25: Re: Engine Conversion Author: PugJH, Location: NorthantsPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2011 11:58 pm ---- Just save the money, get an Audi S3 225/Seat Leon 225 or something similar.
Kingdom forgot to factor in one thing, Insurance and this being your 1st car????
Its a dream many have had, but ultimately, pointless/worthless/stupid/expensive.

Has the recent Jersey rally raised your enthusiasm.... I can shave some money off those prices BTW. You will need to swat up on what your doing though, The ECU wont take a re-map so you will need a piggy back ECU to run the ITB`s
