#1: Interior Fan whistle Author: devotedsniper, Location: Tamworth, StaffordshirePosted: Tue Oct 25, 2011 3:44 pm ---- Hey guys so i'm here with another problem, your going to be sick of me sooner or later
Anyway i'm just wondering if there's any other intakes for the interior fan/blower motor other than the one by the vent on the bonnet?
I ask because on the way home from uni my car sounded like an old fashioned kettle boiling (the sort you put on a cooker hob), at first i thought it might have been my aux belt since it had squeeled the other week, but after being near blinded once by the crap coming out the vents i figured it was the fan.
So finally got home my eyes watering like a little girl from whatever went in my eyes , i started diagnosing and i can confirm it's definatly to do with the vents, list of symptoms and checks already carried out.
- Checked the cabin filter (was only replaced last month, pretty much exactly a month ago and it's already pretty black but there's nothing sitting on it which might have caused the noise)
- Whistling noise gets louder the higher the fan setting (you can't really hear it on 1 and 2 but those settings don't even throw out much air)
- Air coming out the vents is at normal levels for whatever setting is set
- any combination on the dial control the noise is still there (haven't tried with the aircon on but i don't see that making a difference)
- the noise gets louder depending on the amount of vents closed (the 3 vent controls act as a volume control)
- the noise seems to be coming from the back of the dash by the vents for demisting the windscreen
- had a quick look through the vents with a torch and couldn't see anything out of place (was raining and dark by the time i got home)
- whistling noise is the same with or without the engine on.
Think thats about it i suppose i could mention that the fans are pretty much always on full cold and max speed.
Oh and the cars an 01 1.4 8v pre plex LX
Any ideas which don't involve the dash coming out would be great, thanks.

Yeh i was thinking it was that unless something had managed to get into the system (but nothing sits on the top of my dash so i doubt it).
I take it only a pre plexed one will fit or is it a case of any will fit other than the digi control version.

Are your dash vents on the fully open position.. A few people have said about this noise and it's *sometimes* caused by the vents not been open on the dash, failing that it's probably your blower motor

I know what you mean Ste, when the motor has gone it really makes a nasty whistle/whining noise.

Dunno if the heat did anything but i'll be leaving it alone unless it comes back i think.
