#1: Anti pollution fault keeps coming back Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 5:50 am ---- Other than the anti pollution fault ive got, which im getting read by Lee later this week ive got a few other niggles and just wondered if you guys could help.
The car is a 206CC 02 plate 2litre
1. The trip computer button on the wiper stalk has stopped working, I assume its just worn out. Can i just replace the stalk or do i need to do the whole Comm unit? (thats assuming its a comm unit)
2. Occasionally and at random when the car is unlocked using the key the drivers door wont unlock. The passenger side doesnt have this problem. Any ideas whats causing this? Its not a major problem as if the car is locked immediately then unlocked then the door unlocks fine.
Thats it for now. Last edited by R_D_G on Mon Aug 13, 2012 4:57 am; edited 1 time in total

I wouldn't bother trying to get it working with sprays etc because it usually fails again after some time.

Turns out it was the Cat ageing warning. The cat was changed about a week or 2 after I got the car and I suspect the dealer who did it under his warranty didnt reset the fault using a proper diagnostic tool.
Either that or hes put a dodgy cat on but ive got a 2 year guarentee on it so I doubt that as that would cost him more.
Confirmed my fears with regards the switch on the stalk. Would need to have the whole Comm unit changed. Aint gonna happen unless I can get a very cheap unit for a CC from somewhere.
Thought it might be the motor in the door, as it happens very rarely again il leave it and worry about it if it starts to become a regular occurance.

Dealers agreed to get it sorted though as i said before its got a guarentee.
Hopefully its just a simple swap of the cat and the problem will go away.
#5: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:52 am ---- Slight development with my apf problem this morning.
Cats still not been changed as the dealer has been messing around. On Sat he read the codes himself again it was the P0420 cat fault that Lee cleared for me 2 weeks ago. So he finally said he will order the cat and get it sorted.
Now ive been off work for 2 days so the car has sat there in the cold. I come to start it this morning and the cat converter fault now appears and the engine is idling really rough. When it went to slow idle it almost cut out. Turned it off and then on again and idle was fine.
Question i have is was the bad idle due to the cat conv fault or is it a sign of something else being F**ked?
#6: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:05 am ---- Might just be with the CAT fault and the cold weather.
#7: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:18 am ---- Hoped that would be the responce.
Was wondering if it was actually a hint that the cat thing is just disguising a more serious fault. Il find out next week when i finally get a new cat on it.
#8: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:13 am ---- Ok I think there is something else wrong with the car as the apf fault reappaered over the weekend.
The cat was replaced in December with another one and all has been well.
Car has been sat for 2 weeks and then after a 20min run the fault came up.
Havnt had it read yet but i bet its the P0420 fault that kept coming up last time.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? I guess its a sensor as the car isnt blowing and seems to be running fine but is there anything else I should get looking at?
Annoyingly its due its MOT next week
#9: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:15 am ---- Had the the car looked at and all the sensors are working correctly still only the P0420 coming up and the cat appears to be working fine.
Any ideas what else might be a problem. At this stage im open to any suggestions? Could it be an ECU fault? Is it worth changing the plugs to see if that makes a difference?
#10: Re: A few minor things I need some advice on Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 4:54 am ---- Ok still need some help with this but have a little bit more info.
The garage reset the code again and it was fine until it was taken on the motorway, after a short run at constantly 65-70 it came on.
I decided to get a cheap cable to clear the fault and see if it happened again. It did agiain it was fine until a short run on the motorway between 65-70.
I left it as Ive not had time to look at it and after a week or so of a few short runs it switched off?? didnt think it could clear itself but it did. Then it was taken on the motorway again and same thing happened fault came on after a short run (about 8-10miles).
Any ideas? Ive still not had time to change the plugs but its seems odd that it only happens after a run at a stready speed ~3k revs.

#12: Re: Anti pollution fault keeps coming back Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Tue Aug 14, 2012 2:54 am ---- Am I better off changing the coil pack rather than the plugs or doing both together?

You have to take the coil pack of to get at the spark plugs so what do you think
#14: Re: Anti pollution fault keeps coming back Author: R_D_G, Location: HuddersfieldPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 4:07 am ---- Thanks Mr BSI
what I actually ment is am i better off changing the plugs while the coil pack is being chaged so that the whole lot is new or should i just leave the plugs in.
No idea when they were last changed so think I should change them anyway. So i think ive answered my own question lol.
#15: Re: Anti pollution fault keeps coming back Author: DeadEyePaul, Location: Rugby,WarwickshirePosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 4:17 am ---- the coil pack is quite a large item that sits on the spark plugs. it could be just the spark plugs at fault or it could be both
