#1: 206 1.6 sport performance gains? Author: Webbed08, Location: Caerphilly PostPosted: Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:55 pm

Hi guys. Have changed my mind in an engine swap.Thinking more of upgrades on my 1.6 sport. As for buying a second hand engine I won't know if it's been shagged or not. Can anyone suggest what I can change on it. And a rough price and roughly what bhp gains I will have. People have said throttle bodies but I'm not sure if my engine has throttle bodies?

1.6 16v is a capable engine. Get the head slightly skimmed, and ported and polished by a reputable head worker, and get some cams with about 260 degrees duration (catcams 704s look good).

Your engine has 1 throttle body, individual throttle bodies means having 1 throttle body per cylinder, but you will need an aftermarket ECU to do this

Power doesn't come cheap - you could be looking at £2500 - £3000 for all of the above work, the throttle bodies and ECU being the majority of the cost

Give it a good service, that will make it feel better. I read on your last post you want to keep up with your mate in his Escort 2ltr GTi. Its not all about power. Better tyres, sports shocks and dampers, upgrade your anti roll bars and torsion bars to GTi ones and you would be worlds apart on twisty roads depending on his suspension as well.

If you want a little quicker acceleration without a massive budget, get a gearbox from a smaller TU engined 206, it will have shorter ratios and then put your existing 5th gear in it to retain motorway fuel economy

Some of those Escort GTI's are 130 bhp, most are 115 bhp.

206 XSI in factory tune should be a good match for a 115 bhp Escort.

Add in the fact your 206 will easily outstop it as you have a much more advanced ABS system with ebd & emergency brake assist to help you where as your mate's Escort just has a basic ABS system Wink

Thanks for the replies guys. Ye his escort is 114 bhp. And my sport is 107 bhp. At the moment it's not much in it really tbh. He does pull away like. But he's putting the 2 litre mondeo engine. Which I think is 140 bhp. And it literally fits strate in without any hassle. That's y I was wondering if an engine would be a straight swap in mine. As we are always messing about on the straights. So I need power really. As I got the 180 wheels with Dunlop sport Tyres on which I find good. With a Longlife straight through exhaust with an induction kit. And will be avin a 4-2-1 manifold and sport cat. And want a fee extra bits to it so opefully boost power alittle like.

none of the 2.0 PSA engine is a striaght swap to your 206

and all the mod you mention will give you next to no gain on power, sadly

Speaking from experience, the only advice I can give you is stop spending money on the 206 as soon as you can.

Save what you would have spent and put it into a new car fund.

Even if it did 0-60 in 2 seconds, it's a 206, they're not made for that kind of thing.

If this is the same mate with the Escort, same applies to him tbh Razz

In fact, I'd prefer to have a 206 than the escort, at least the 206 still has some style in it...
