Ive owned both GTI and 180 and the insurence is only slighty more on the 180 but like others are saying who wants a car that will do a sub 25mpg?

A friend of mine has got a 2011 AUDI RS3 and that dont even cost a grand to insure so that must be the killer

maybe in a few years they might go up like the 205 GTI????

SO are we saying the 180 is better on fuel than standard gti? Or is it just that the 180s are a bit newer.

Thats alot more than the 1-2k for a gti though. Plus they are way more to maintain with servicing ect. Ive owned 3 imprezas and its the maintenance that hits you in the wallet.

It might be a big cost once a year for servicing, but weigh that against the cost of repairs needed to keep a 12 yr old car on the road and they probably work out similar over the time you own the car.

Your talking about two completely different calibre of cars macca, the S3 will cost more in every way. I wouldnt be driving my 180 now if it only cost slightly more for my impreza. I save around £150 a month with my 180.

It seems you can buy one of these car's very cheap indeed, under a 900 quid on ebay.

Why is such a nice car with loads of toys so cheap?

If you think a 206 GTI is a nice car then you have pretty low standards.

Decent condition 206 GTI's are getting harder to find these days, most have now been ruined / written off by boy racers / chavs due to there cheap purchase price.

End of the day its a old French designed shopping hatch fitted with the engine that isnt that special anyway lifted out of the 406.

An immaculate, standard looking 206 GTi is a nice car. A cheap nice car. Quite desirable as a small hot hatch going back nearly 10 years. But anybody with some money these days looks at newer cars.

Age means they are cheap. Simple as that.
The market considers the 206 to be an old car, the 207 is even obsolete these days. They still have half decent equipment levels with all the safety kit but a car first launched 13 years ago isn't new anymore.

I think it's nice, everyone to their own.

Everything works and it's well equip'd with loads of toys and half leather.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's not a nice car.

So is a 180 better on fuel than a 138?

Depends on how you drive.

No it's not, hence the higher CO2 output which is directly linked to fuel consumption.

It depends how you drive though. I can get a worse MPG out of a HDi than a GTi quite easily.

I really like the 206... It's not half as nice as my Saab but it's ok. It's a bit bloody noisy and quite uncomfortable! but i do like it for some reason. lol

My lasses is standard and completely un-messed with so am hoping when we flog it in 3 years (for a 197 Cup) someone will want it.

I paid £950 for my 99 GTi 2 years ago. Was hoping to get around the same back next year when I sell up but they seem to be going for a fair bit less Sad
