#1: Crown Wheel Noise Author: Schumi, Location: Istanbul / TurkeyPosted: Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:56 pm ---- Thats my first problem topic. Last week my mechanics removed my gearbox. First all of I dont have any problem with my gearbox except broken clutch bearings and clutchs itselft.
Anyway. Reason for removing clutch is maintenance and installing my Quaife ATB LSD. We replaced all bearings inside of gearbox. All of them from Peugeot dealer with genuine OEM parts. I dont know why but Quaife isnt direct fitment. Diff touched diff housing and housing cover slightly. So we made required modifications for clearance. After gearbox assembled with all parts and installed on car I made a little break-in period (150 km).
But I have a noise problem from gearbox. Whining noise coming. I researched and asked some gearbox experts. Results showing source of whining noise is crown wheel. But I dont have any problem before.
Some cars gearbox or diff housing have adjusting shims. But my mechanicer said last generation of BE4 gearbox dont have them. I have spare GTI crown wheel and pinion. Its a little (really little) longer then mine. So thats what i want. A little longer gear ratios. But I cant be sure changing crown wheel and pinion solve my problem.
Uh I forget. Another problem is a strange noise when idle car. If i put clutch pedal noise gone until i release pedal.
Yes thats a long topic. And idea guys ?
