#1: 1.6 16v Gearbox Author: ct-xsi, Location: Wakefield PostPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2012 12:39 pm

Basically, ive had the car nearly a year and ive replaced the gearbox twice, the unfortunate thing is that it has gone again, leaving it stuck in gear and a huge puddle of oil in tesco car park...

Ive been paying anything from 250-375 for the gearbox's so its really starting to add up..

my questions are:

1. Has anyone got pictures of the gearbox mounted up on there 1.1, 1.4, 1.6 8v or gti motors so i can see if the mountings are all the same

and

2. Are the gearboxs interchangeable throughout the range? as i could get a 1.1 box for like 60 quid at my local scrappy...

Ive seen people fit the jp4 engine into 106 gtis and rallyes n stuff n im sure ive seen people fit 1.3 rallye boxes to them?

So basically im wanting to know if i could go and get any 206 box and wack it on, even though it would alter gear ratios and what not, i wouldnt mind that

Any help appreciated

The TU, ET and DV4 lumps are MA boxes

The DW, EW and DV6 are BE boxes

The ratios will be different if you get one from a different engine, but they will fit.

ino ive been told that from a pug specialist with a reply along the lines of no a 50 quid box wont fit, you need a 350 quid box instead, whcih i just so hapen to have here..

which i rekon is bull s**t...

if people can run them in saxos n 106's they wont run a 206 box with it, so im going to post on sax-p also see what boxes people run..

i arent paying £350 for another box when im wanting to sell the car Neutral

You have a 1.6 16v? Yes?

Any box from a 1.1, 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, 1.6 8v, 1.6 16v and 1.4 HDi will fit.

But they all have slightly different ratios depending on the engine. The HDi will be miles out with it being a derv.

you will need to make sure the one you get run hydraulic clutch.

As 106/saxo box run cable clutch.

ah yea forgot about that... is there any 1.4/1.6's that run hydraulic? searching ebay and all the 1.4/1.6 8 valvers are all cable type like in early 106 n saxos

Sorry for double post..

but i have another question...

1. Are the linkages the same on all the boxes below:

"Any box from a 1.1, 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, 1.6 8v, 1.6 16v and 1.4 HDi will fit."

2. How hard would it be to convert my hyraulic clutch to cable? would it just be a case of blank off the pipe from master cyclinder and then fit a cable box, cable and cable type clutch pedal?

There is a guy who is thinking of buying an xsi for £500. If he splits it I'd buy the whole engine and replace it.

Needs to be a MA gearbox as Lee said and you need one with the right linkage (yours should be rod). Look on the saxo forum there is a table with all the gear ratios on it.

Not much in it with most of the ratios, the rallye boxes are quite a bit shorter but hard to get and most are probably worn out. I wanted one but could find one near me.

Also how do you mange to break so many? In my first year of driving I abused my box and wheel spun it all the time but it only broke just recently. The planet gears fell out and there was a bit of play in some bearings. Only cost me £175

it is close because it run 4.54 final drive, most 106 use the same gearset ratio.

That is the one. Didn't quite remember it correctly. I actually got a box with a 4.54 ratio but it was noisy turning it around and the oil that was in the bottom was grey and full of crap so I didn't bother putting it in.
