Coolant bleed screw - heater hose

#1: Coolant bleed screw - heater hose Author: Jake86, Location: Bolton PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2012 11:13 am

I'll be the first to say it - I'm an idiot! I have managed to lose the bleed screw from the heater hose on my GTI 180 whilst refilling it earlier today, one minute it was there, the next it wasn't Shocked ! I have had a look down the back of the engine, on the floor, etc and can not see where it has gone.
Does anybody know if there is a chance of me getting just a replacement bleed screw from somewhere?! I have had a look on servicebox and can not see just a replacement screw, it looks as though I'd have to buy the whole hose :(.
Any help appreciated! This isn't what I envisioned my first post to be, but at least I'm outed as an idiot from the beginning! Embarassed

Funnily enough I did the same Laughing

I was told they don't sell the screw seperately but I found it 10 minutes later

Thanks for the reply, at least I'm not the only person to do it!! I have searched high and low for it, I've even jacked the car up so I can scoot under and have a feel/look around, it's vanished! I guess I'll be on the phone to the parts department when they open on Monday morning. Fingers crossed they can get hold if it as I need it sorted ASAP Confused

Is your hose like this?

Yep, that looks like it. The longer bit goes to the expansion tank and the bit with the bleed screw goes through the bulkhead. I've lost the little disc like bleed screw! Stuck without my car too Sad

Well if yours is identical you could have that hose - it spent a few weeks on the car so it's virtually brand new. I also have another hose that has the bleed screw in it.
If you are mobile you could collect it because I'm about 40 miles away.

I've got the pipe with the bleed screw I think. You can have it for the cost of postage. You'll get it Tuesday morning

If you nip down to Campbells on Waterloo Street, they will probably let you have the screw for nothing if they have one in. They aren't too bad down there. Failing that nip round the corner to Metro and they will probably charge you a couple of quid.

There is also a little scrappers just off Blackburn Road (Back Eckersley Road/Mold Street), he had 3 or 4 206s in the other week, he's a bit brain dead when it comes to parts so you might be able to get one from him, he also let's you take the parts off yourself which is an added bonus. PM me if you want his number as gates are normally locked, but he's never usually far away.

Thanks for the replies! I hadn't even thought of the scrappies Macca, tried phoning Campbell's and they don't have anything in and Metro aren't open until tomorrow.
Thanks for the offer Edward. Unfortunately I have no other means of getting around apart from pushbike or public transport so I can't collect. Crying or Very sad
Lee, if you have definitely got the hose/screw and could send it tomorrow that'd be great. If you PM me your paypal details I will send something across to cover the postage!

It looks similar. Obviously can't compare it to mine or else I wouldn't be in this mess Very Happy ! If it came from a pipe like the picture Edward posted then I'd assume it's right and will fit?!

Why not replace it with a stainless steel or brass bolt and "O" ring? Does anyone know what the thread is?
