this mornin when i got to work there was a funny burning smell coming from the exhaust and my car at the moment sounds like an impreza, could this be the cat needing cleaned or replaced or could it be something else?

it's not misfiring, just has the smell and the exhaust kind of splutters if that makes sense but there is fumes coming out of it so it's not blocked

But you say the car sounds like an impreza, this is normally a sign of a misfire.

Does it actually sound like an impreza as in it burbles like a boxer engine would?

You checked for a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust? That could be your burning smell, can't say what would cause the noise.

cat looks fine, checked plugs and they look fine also, so going to replace coil pack and see if that helps, noticed that they are ngk plugs so gonna ask them to get me bosch super 4's? see if that makes a difference

also should i be driving around in this or should it be parked up till the coil pack comes through?

meant to add, when he was checking the plugs 2 of them had oil on them but he couldn't see any oil where the plugs were taken out of, I'm hopin this isn't leading to anythin more serious or the cars goin for scrap

I'm guessin the oil in the plugs isn't a good sign then, I would probably be able to take some parts off it but not many as i dont really have the time or knowledge to totally strip a car down
