#1: Strange sound Author: Simmo, Location: YorkPosted: Tue Feb 07, 2012 8:21 pm ---- My car makes a strange high pitch squealing sound usually when a lot of revs are put on or sometimes traveling at higher speeds (70 mph ) My guesses are water pump or fan belt? If that makes any sense? and if anyone has a rough idea to how much a new water pump may be for a 2001 1.1 style

But yeah, probably your aux belt or timing belt tensioner.
Best bet is to take it to a garage as we cant tell from here what the noise is, we would only be guessing really.

You may as well replace the cambelt at the same time.
