#6: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Jmoore8419, Location: NorfolkPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2012 3:34 pm ---- the oil is in that general area the seal on the rocker box does look screwed i will replace that and see if it stops will let ya know how i get on thanks for the help
#7: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Mon Feb 20, 2012 4:00 pm ---- Be careful doing up the rocker cover bolts, if you do them up to tight you will bend the rocker cover causing your nice new seal to start leaking
#8: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Jmoore8419, Location: NorfolkPosted: Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:09 pm ---- upon taking the cover off and looking at the oil there is still no sign of mayo/water im guessing i should keep and eye on it and maybe give it oil and filter change before spending loads of money on new head gaskit
#9: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:10 pm ---- Some people overfill the water, when you drive it gets hot, expands and overflows. Then it cools and the level is below where it was so they top it up again. You aren't filling it above the max marker on the expansion tank are you?
#10: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Jmoore8419, Location: NorfolkPosted: Wed Feb 22, 2012 4:35 pm ---- Its hard to see where the max water line is the bottle is very hard to see thro for sum reason. Took the car out for a long drive today and no over heating or smoke or any dodgy goings on oil went down a lil but that is all!! Im off to sheffield thursday evening i have confidence it will b ok! wish me luck
#11: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Wed Feb 22, 2012 4:50 pm ---- If its between the block and cylinder head it is the headgasket
Replace the cambelt too if it hasnt been done
Its an extremly common failure the oil seal, so dont worry just get it done
#12: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Jmoore8419, Location: NorfolkPosted: Wed Feb 22, 2012 5:14 pm ---- cant i just replace the seal?

#15: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 4:56 am ---- Is the water bottle difficult to see through because it is a brown colour. That is a good sign of head gasket failing or has previously failed and wasn't cleaned (very few people bother) when the gasket was fixed.
#16: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: banboots, Location: AyrshirePosted: Wed Feb 29, 2012 2:05 am ---- I have the very same oil leak pointed out to me by peugeot when getting some work done on the automatic gearbox. I left it as the bill was already high and was just going to keep an eye on it. I took it to a local garage and while walking out to it with the mechanic he explained where it was how bad it was before he had even seen the car. He checked it out and told me not to waste my money getting it done as there is very little getting out and that they are known for this at that area. I just keep an eye on it and don't bother but I don't drive the car like I want to get anywhere fast I just use it to get around in and watch the petrol consumption. If I drove the way I used to though I would have got it done. Reading your post has brought something up though, the brown overflow bottle.....I have one of those lol....
#17: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Wed Feb 29, 2012 4:17 pm ---- Brown overflow bottle is not necessarily a head gasket failed now. It could be an old problem previously repaired.
#18: Re: head gaskit going or just a dodgy seal Author: Jmoore8419, Location: NorfolkPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:07 pm ---- possibly could have been done lol erm any tips on how to drain the water cooling radiator ?
