#1: this fell off my gti Author: m4tth3w, Location: sheffieldPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:00 pm ---- Went for a nice ride out up north York moor's today and was going down a particularly bumpy road and this fell off. Any idea what it is and where it goes, it looks like a shield.
Thanks
#2: Re: this fell off my gti Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:01 pm ---- Looks like an exhaust heatshield.
#3: Re: this fell off my gti Author: Abzynthe, Posted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:01 pm ---- Looks like its the shield that goes round the cat
#4: Re: this fell off my gti Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:02 pm ---- It's the shield from the cat I believe
#5: Re: this fell off my gti Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:04 pm ---- It is the cat heat shield.
#6: Re: this fell off my gti Author: Necro, Location: BedfordshirePosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:04 pm ---- Its attached to the cat, mines fallen off too, I just left it off.
I'm guessing its a heatshield.
#7: Re: this fell off my gti Author: m4tth3w, Location: sheffieldPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:05 pm ---- Wow that was quick. Cheers, it's a 2001 gti btw
Is it a problem to leave it off a couple of months till I take car in for mot?
I'd rather not take the time out if it's not important.
#8: Re: this fell off my gti Author: furryhobnob, Location: NuneatonPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:07 pm ---- If it wasn't important it wouldn't be there in the first place mate, any knocks on a speedbump etc without it on will damage the cat Last edited by furryhobnob on Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:08 pm; edited 1 time in total

Not that important tbh! I removed it off my escort, couldn't be doing with it, if you put it back on it will only probably rattle any way!

That what I thought cheers.
I can't see how it attaches, there are no screw holes. I think it may need tack welding on. I need a new exhaust anyhow.
#11: Re: this fell off my gti Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:30 pm ---- Only downside is that if you get a hot cat, fly through a puddle and soak it, the insides can collapse.
#12: Re: this fell off my gti Author: m4tth3w, Location: sheffieldPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:33 pm ---- Hmm, is it easy to refit then? Anyone know?
#13: Re: this fell off my gti Author: tofy92, Location: potters barPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:29 pm ---- it was probably spot welded on and they have rusted and its come off i wouldnt worry tbh atall
