Is there a surge protector available to protect the ECU?

#1: Is there a surge protector available to protect the ECU? Author: Bummers, Location: North wales PostPosted: Sun Mar 11, 2012 2:16 pm
    ----
After an impulsive purchase by a relative I've been tasked with sorting out the problems of a 206 1.6 16valve xsi Crying or Very sad

It scrubbed up well which I think was why they (mother Rolling Eyes ) purchased it without it being looked over properly.
Turned out it hadn't been serviced in a ridiculously long time, the oil filter had literally disintegrated (wish I'd have took pics) and i had to fish all bits of plastic and filter out of the housing before replacing it. Obviously the oil was like tar.

I read up as much as I could find about this car and was gutted to discover they never made a haynes manual for this engine! Evil or Very Mad so if anyone knows of a workshop manual could you kindly point me in the right direction? Very Happy

So, i've found out it's fitted with a sagem coil pack, I'm hoping the ECU isn't fried because of it (idle is rough when cold - fault codes show throttle position sensor so hoping thats the cause of it).
I've read that a surge/spike protector can be fitted between the coilpack and ECU, does anyone have any more info on this at all?

Also, where is the best place to get a replacement coil pack from - is peugeot parts dept competitively priced compared to OEM suppliers or (as in the case for vauxhall which i'm most familiar with) is there a company which supplies genuine parts at fraction of dealer prices?

Peugeot for both the recall on the coil pack spike protector and for a new genuine coil pack. Think they are £63 from peugeot if i remember right.

Phoned a dealership today to be greeted with total silence when i asked both parts & service depts about it. Neither were aware of it.

Know any dealers that do know what i'm talking about that i can get it from?

Didn't realise this was the saxslo vts engine, i'll get a haynes bought for it!

Coilpack was £110ish inc vat, velo (vaelo? Something like that) not the elec-bourgy one that i've seen recommended. That be ok or is it worth tracking down a specific one?

Any more detailed info regarding this?
I remember reading about this ages ago on here, then completely forgot about it.
When is it needed and what is the procedure?

You basically splice one end in to pin 4 on the coil pack connector plug & earth the other end.

My 03 plate TU3 had it done under manufactures warranty when they replaced the coil pack.

Just checked, it's similar but not the same (TU5JP4 in the 206, TU5J4 in the saxo)
Not sure what the differences are yet except bigger valves in the 206, still looking into it.
