#1: is my alternator shot? Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:37 am ---- would my em light come on if my alternator was f****d when i rev it and then at 5k bounce then drop to 4k and bounce on full throttle, my girl friend broke down the other day, i recovered it after work which was about 10.30 when i got there lol, she was driving along sitting at the traffic lights went to pull away and stalled, started it again then stalled then it wouldnt start again.... as if the battery was dead, when i got it home i jumped it and ran it round the block but it was bouncing off the limiter, my belt is abit s***ty so my theory is ' if the belt is s**t it is slipping up under fast load and cant keep up with the power demand for the injectors, coil pack and ecu? somethings telling me its charging but its not right

#3: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:47 am ---- no it doesnt which is what i dont get......... and i havent my mulit meter is broken atm..........
#4: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: Bummers, Location: North walesPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:02 am ---- Get a meter across the battery terminals whilst the engine is running instead of ragging the nuts off it and guessing!
Also, check the earth strap from the alternator to the chassis. If thats snapped/badly corroded your battery won't charge.
#5: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:08 am ---- but does what ive said sound about right to you? does it make sense......
#6: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: Bummers, Location: North walesPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:14 am ---- Were the headlights dimmed? Was it turning over very sluggish or turning over fine but failing to start?
#7: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:20 am ---- it wouldnt even crank over..... the battery was dead, jumped it and it started fine
#8: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: Bummers, Location: North walesPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 7:47 am ---- Well either battery, alternator or bad earth to alternator.
Check the earth strap first, then you'll need your multimeter to check the battery/alternator.

Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 9:32 am ---- hmmmm...... just got it started, and it kept miss firing and dropping revs when ever you give it full throttle..... i unplug the lambda ran fine............... took it for a spin round the block came back and it started doing it again then it died.................
#10: Re: is my alternator shot? Author: Bassline_Toad, Location: Chester, UKPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 10:05 am ---- As said above, get yourself a new multi meter and put it across the battery, should be around 12v. Turn the engine over, it should go go around 14v.

If it's a dodgy battery/alternator, stop messing around in case you damage your ecu through volt drops/spikes. Get the battery & alternator tested before you start unplugging sensors and confusing the ecu even more.

Author: jb206, Location: United KingdomPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:39 am ---- got it going played with all the sensors....... went to drive it wouldnt go into gear.......... pulled the cable abit and put some moleys round it ( as a form of extra adjustment.) no luck..... so i whipped the gearbox off this afternoon, clutch has destroyed its self the pressure plate has snapped in 3.................. hahaha new clutch tomorrow, gives me a lesson.... dont cheap out by doing the clutch release bearing with out doing it all lol, you live and learn though dont ya
