Well the last couple of days my gti has been running s bit hotter than normal normaly runs at around 75-80 degrees but it's now running at around 85 Iv checked level of expansion tank seems to be ok and there no mayonnaise so I'm wondering if it could be an air block?

Coolant temp guage should be just under 90 deg C when the engine is up to running temp after a few minutes / miles.

75 / 80 deg C is to cold.

Also remember the coolant temp gauge is at the bottom of the rev counter on a GTI, dont make the normal mistake most make on here with the 5 dial cluster & look at the oil temp gauge on the right Laughing

If it is running slightly hotter something has changed. It may just be the weather, driving more in town or low coolant but unless you are just imagining it something has changed.

Others are right it is not an excessive temperature and, if anything you car has and still is running a bit cool.

Keep an eye on it and keep an eye on your coolant level.

It may be nothing but watch it for the next few months.
