Gavin will love putting his special resin in that.

Ring auto glass direct and they check your policy for you to see if your covered.

I have dealing with Autoglass and they wasnt that great but could of just been the person that came out to me tho.

You could look through the yellow pages and see if you have independent windscreen company near you they may do it cheaper.

Just found this company thats near you

Cheers Iain but I'm not sure if I'm covered via my insurance, I'm with direct line

Doesnt matter who your covered by as most insurance includes it just have a look, if you are a repair is free and a replacement is normally about £50 to £70 depending on your cover

I've just had a look and can find the mrs insurance details but not mine!!!!
Do you have to use a certain glass place under your insurance, or can you use any?

#13: Re: Windscreen chip Author: Mikey2uk, Location: Stevenage PostPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 5:00 am

Depends on your cover I think

#14: Re: Windscreen chip Author: furryhobnob, Location: Nuneaton PostPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 5:04 am

I'm fully comp, were both with direct line and according to her insurance document she's covered for windscreen repair so I should imagine I will be too, oh well it's only £40 and it will be repaired today

#15: Re: Windscreen chip Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, Lancashire PostPosted: Tue May 29, 2012 5:07 am

Just ring your insurance and ask them if you're covered. If you're fully comp, you'll most likely have glass cover. They will deal with the rest and tell you which company to use. Most of the time I think the glass company need to see your policy.

If you have glass cover and the screen needs replacing, then you normally need to pay the excess, which in my case it's cheaper to get the screen replaced and pay for it myself. (£90 for my last screen fitted)

& don't forget a windscreen repair can affect your insurance in the future.

How? It's never affected mine before, had a few chips repaired and even 2 screen replaced and that has never change my insurance.

It does say on the mrs documentation that a windscreen repair or replacement doesn't affect your NCB

Same here. I even went though mine myself and it never affected my insurance.

Anything you do affects your insurance, they make a record of everything. just because it doesn't affect your NCB doesnt mean they dont take it into account.

You can be refused cover if you want to get a higher risk car if you've had any claims. & that includes windscreen repair claims.

I agree!

To many people confuse NCB with what risk they are deemed. I learnt the hard way when 2 stone chip repairs & a replacement screen on the same car within a year, led to my insurers declining to insure my TT.

Post an after pic when it's repaired. Looks quite bad to be repaired.

Ive had dealings with Autoglass twice during my 405 owning days.

1st time ended up with a complaint to my insurance company due to Autoglasses pisspoor fitting effort & damage to the car caused by the fitter.

2nd time they refused to fit a genuine Peugeot screen as they said it was to expensive ( £96 list as I checked ) so after speaking to my insurance company RAC auto windscreens got the job & fitted a genuine Peugeot screen Cool

my dad had a similar size chip on his windscreen, autoglass came and filled it month later it turned into a crack half way across the windscreen, ended up with a new windscreen

I can see you having a new screen come winter with the first frost.

Maybe, although saying that there was a similar sized chip on the windscreen of my silver Gti that the previous owner had got repaired via Autoglass, and that lasted the 4 years I had the car

Could be lucky then, but at least it's better than a nasty great big chip in the windscreen
