Speedo Issues
-> 206 Problems

Hi all. Just brought my 206 friday. Perfectly fine on test drive. Pay money and drive home. Next day speedo starts playing up. Some times it just drops all the way down, but most of the time, its registering no where near what speed i am doing. Is this a regular fault? Any ideas what this could be?

Yes does occur.
Usually the speedo unit itself is at fault
If this does not work then I say replace the speedo sensor
Is the needle dropping to zero say when your doing 30?

I had the problem, did the sensor first, then did the speedo and problem fixed.

Also as your 206 is 99 year. The millage is not stored on the ecu, so if you find speedo cluster you would have to get the millage adjusted

Yeah that was my one worry. Would be ok if it wasn't electronic mileage counter.

If its low mileage then it'll be hard but if not have a look on eBay as they tell you the mileage it has on it

Might be the speedo cluster motor at fault, did the needle get stuck occasionally and some time might be not working,

If your speedo is a pre-plex one, this will happen due to design fault. There's a small plastic pin holding the little gear in the cluster motor causing the problem. U can super glue it back or just solder a metal pin to replace it if u have good diy skill.

as an update, had a run to and around brizzle and back again today whilst helping my mate move house. Needle drops to 0mph when car reaches 45mph.
