#1: Intermittent prob Car cuts off straight away after starting? Author: very_452001, Location: Birmingham PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:03 am

Hi,

I have a 2006 Peugeot 206 1.4

What Im describing is a Intermittent fault that happens at random times whether the engine is hot or cold but more likely hot i noticed. When I notice the problem first starts then the problem repeats itself until I have to manually put my foot on the gas pedal to bring the rpm over 1000 or hold key in the igniting position for a few secs to stop the engine from cutting off.

I did diagnostics on it and there's no trouble codes.

I know there could be several causes that cause this problem but what are the most popular causes for this?

thanks,

Idle control valve possibly.

Ok i found 2 guides:

How to clean throttle body and...

How to clean stepper motor.

Which one is reccommended?

Any of these contain Idle control valve?

If the car will still run on the throttle that would suggest the above ideas are correct. Stepper motor is same as idle control valve.

Its just that I'm a noob when it comes to mechanics and a part to have two different names to it makes it confusing lol.

So is the stepper motor inside the throttle body which means if I clean the throttle body the stepper motor gets cleaned as well right?

Otherwise why would there be 2 different guides?

Its not 2 different names though. A stepper motor is a style of motor. An valve is a device which controls the flow of a fluid. There are lots of different kinds of valves. An idle control valve is a valve which does a particular job, and it does this by using a stepper motor to control whether its open, closed or somewhere in between.

ok i got the carb cleaner. Im following the throttle body cleaning guide and in the guide it says the MAF/MAP sensor needs cleaning so is there just one sensor thats needs cleaning and does it mean the map/maf are the same?
