#1: 206 Not starting up, wipers and lights come on Author: nonamecc79, Location: london PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 2:37 pm

Hi there, long time reader but first time poster

Im having problems with my 55 reg 206 1.1 sport which doesnt seem to turn over. When I switch the ignition, the wipers randomly start up, the lights automatically come on, and the dahs gives me random lights. WHen I go to start up the car, it trys to turn on but the rev counter only goes up a little. Prior to the issue, I have recently installed a new head unit and subwoofer. When I fitted the headunit, I found that two wires needed to be switched. When I cut and reconnected the wires, the dashboard will light up and start buzzing at me. When I went to switch the wires back to normal, the problem started. WHat have I done wrong?? Should I connect the stock headunit again?? Thanks

did you not disconnect the battery before you wire up your sub and headunit?

First rule with any electrical work on a 206 is disconnect the battery to avoid frying the BSI.

Try a BSI reset (you'll find details if you do a search) and if that doesn't work then start looking at fuses before going down the expensive route of having the BSI replaced.

BTW, welcome to the site, looks like you've been leeching from it since January and only communicating with us when something goes wrong.

Edit. Seabook, you beat me to it.

I dont know a lot about 206's so I dont want to give false advice to others lol. Only just recently started driving tbh. Thanks for your suggestions

Whats the betting the VAN wire to the back of the radio has been fiddled with thinking its + volt supply Rolling Eyes

There is NO NEED to cut wires on a 206 to install an aftermarket radio.

Hope you havent sent +12 volts down the VAN wire as if you have it will have likely fried the BSI unit.

What He Said ,that is why if you don't know how to do a DIY job, take it for someone who know what he is doing,a garage or a friend, instead of causing you a problem that might cost you x10 his labor

UPDATE:

I tried the BSI reset but still nothing. I also checked all the fuses and they seem intact. I reckon the BSI is dead Sad I'll upload a video and some pictures later on to give a clear image of what is happening.

I read online somewhere that you need to swap the ignition and live wire so that the radio will store the settings :S

I'm sure Peugeot will be happy to relieve your wallet of around £600 to sort it out for you.

I'd just pay the £8.98 for the multiplexed aftermarket radio adaptor harness as it's a much safer option.

Available from any Peugeot / Citroen main dealer Wink

If you have fiddled with wire numbers XE24, 9004 or 9005 then you have likely damaged the BSI unit as these are the VAN wires ( Vehicle Area Network )

I cut the blue and red wires :S My blue remote cable for the subwoofer was connected to the blue wire as well. I think it was the switched 12v wire

Peugeot / Citroen wiring doesnt work by colours apart from green / yellow for earth.

PSA Peugeot / Citroen use codes printed on the wires.

Look at the wires you cut & there will be a alphanumeric code printed on them every few inches Wink

1) Solder & heatshrink the wires back together.

2) Check with a multimeter ALL the BSI fuses are intact / not blown.

3) Check ALL the fuses in the BM34 underbonnet fusebox in the same way.

4) Reboot the BSI unit correctly.

If it's still dead then remove the BSI unit & either replace it with a VIRGIN / NEW unit OR send the original of for repair & BE HONEST about what you have done to it to kill it!

BBA Reman can test / repair BSI units

www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx

A new BSI unit from Peugeot is £339.77 PLUS whatever the labour charge is to configure it to the car ( at least an hours labour charge )
