#1: overheat in gti 138 2000 Author: scoop, Location: cairo,egyptPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 6:08 am ---- i still have the same problem that the engine temperature rises till 100 degrees and stays at that point then when i press the fuel pedal few times the the low speed fan kicks in and the temperature goes back to 90, i have turned on the a/c to check if the low speed fan kicks in with it or not and fortunately it worked and i disconnected the low speed fan resistor to check if its broken but the as soon as i disconnected the resistor plug the low speed fan stopped so that shows that the low speed fan resistor is working fine, and i have cleaned the temperature sensor (green one) and plugged it back and still the low speed fan doesn't kick in when it reaches 90 degrees or above, i have to admit that both fan speeds works fine with the a/c, but with engine temperature issues it's not functioning with low speed fan, only high speed works when temp rises above 100 degrees. i also wanted to know what is the sensor that is located below the green temp sensor which is also connected with 2 wires only maybe that could be a factor for the temperature problem, i just noticed that the engine didn't start when i unplugged that plug, and also another thing i need to tell is that i removed the thermostat for better engine cooling when running.. so please tell me what could cause the the slow speed fan for not working with increasing temperature??

With the AC on it should never really get that hot because the fans keep it cool enough

#4: Re: overheat in gti 138 2000 Author: 138Andy, Location: NottsPosted: Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:47 am ---- the low speed fan could be effected by anything from dodgy wiring the relays are known to cause problems from corrosion, i myself had to replace and rewire the whole radiator fan system because it was all green and broken only takes around 30minutes - 1hour depending if you have the correct tools , soldering iron , new relays , enough electrical cable to rewire this area
you could also try a new resistor there only £5
you may have a faulty sensor take it to a garage and have them run a diagnostics on your can and see if there are any problems

Low speed fan might stop working because the power has shifted to make the higher speed fan work. I can't remember how it's wired exactly.
Green sensor is the coolant temp sensor. This tells the ECU the coolant temperature. The ECU then switches the relays for the cooling fan.

if the wires or resistor where damaged then the low speed fan wouldnt have worked with the a/c , right?

could you not get peugeot or someone with the program on there computer to change what temp the cooling system turns on and off ?
