Interesting, mine would start fine, run for 2 minutes then it would want o die, almost like it was overfueling. If you revved the car then it would clear and drive faultlessly until it had been left for at least a working day. Last Friday it started to have the water In the glovebox then later in the day it would struggle to start but once running was fine .... Coolant was it feels oily and does smell of crak case fumes .... I guess the last gasket was a cheap one.

I know that water gushing sound, i get it if i top up a low coolant system every time and it gets louder when you rev it. After about 3 minutes it goes away and only returns if the water level drops, so might just be air in your system from the leak. The cooling system does get naturally pressurised because it obviously gets hot so tries to evaporate and plus its being driven around by the water pump so if the seal isn't quite up to the job then it will leak under pressure. Do the pipes get really hard? Get a dye test or sniff test done to properly confirm it - dont guess. I've got a friend with a BMW that had a shot head gasket and while i was looking at it the thermostat started to spray badly and then a pipe blew off and just missed me so be extremely careful as you don't want a face full of hot coolant.

I don't remember the pipes getting hard, they felt hot, possibly hotter than normal ?

I'm going to swap the thermostat today (inc housing) and then have another go at bleeding the system.

Is there a set procedure for bleeding the cooling system and how much coolant does the 206 1.4 8v hold ?

If i can get the system bled and it get rid of the rushing sound i'll run it for a few days, get a sniff test done, then i'll flush the system and replace the coolant (i'll put the old thermostat in while running the cleaner through the system)

ok had another go and it seems like there is less rushing water now ..... but its still there. I'll have another go when it cools down, I don't fancy opening up the bleed screws when the water is almost at boiling point !! The only bleed screw i didn't open is the radiatior, I haven't got an allen key they right size .... I've got 12mm and 10mm and 1/2" but its in between ... actually i have a 25mm allen key in the garage but that will take some grinding to fit.

Has anyone got a how too on the coolant system bleeding ? I've searched and most say open the bleed valves and pour ..... Smile

and one more thing before bedtime ..... if i run the car with the head tank cap off and squeeze the top rad hose i can almost get the car to stall ... its almost as if its over fuelling ... maybe i'm going mad though .....
