THEY ARE A MONEY PIT. Get that into your head. They have many "features", which were first put into production on this engine, meaning it acted as a form of "prototype". These engines had MANY problems which have been listed, FAP, DMF, turbo etc etc etc.. And you've only got to look at the newer HDi's which don't use the same "technology", to realise that its all a load of s**te.
You could put £750 towards a 2.0 HDi 90, which with an FMIC and a remap would probably push at least 130bhp, if not more (I'm not THAT clued up in HDi tuning). And you'd still have money to spare, without having to have a separate fund for "repairs". It seems silly that you have to have a fund for car repairs, if you keep money aside for car repairs, surely you'd think twice about buying it!

I have no comment on the 1.6HDi as I have no experience of them. (pointless post? Probably lol)
If your heart is set on one, and you know the risks, then go for it, at least your prepared.
But, I have a 2.0 hdi and I dont believe the extra 20bhp from the 1.6 will make that much difference at all on normal day to day driving. And the MPG isnt that different.
1.6HDi - around 58MPG
2.0HDi - around 56MPG

it is not uncommon for the DW and XUD diesel hit over 300K miles, if you look after it well.
The best example i have seen so far is over 470K miles on a C5.

about right i guess? i got 2 rebuild calipers cost me about 120 each (bosch), other brand is roughly half price.
