#2: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: broadblaster, Location: south coastPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:32 pm ---- if you can do the work yourself then i would think if the rest of car is ok and you like it then rebuild it.if paying sombody to do it then tough call as it will add up but could get s/h head for under 200
#3: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gazza, Location: OSWESTRYPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:35 pm ---- y are the engines / heads so expensive?
i paid £300 for the car and its on a 2002 (51) with 57k on the clock, want to make money on the car but not sure which is best way to go? need help please
#4: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: broadblaster, Location: south coastPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:41 pm ---- well if you got it to sell on and make cash then you will proberly get a better return by parting it out then. but it does take time, room and effort you can be sat on some bits for ages then the hastle of posting parts. you may get a head or full engine cheaper but you need to be sure its a good un.
#5: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Seabook, Posted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:44 pm ---- bolt a new head on and then sold the whole car.
without a working engine you aren't got much breaking value
#6: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gazza, Location: OSWESTRYPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:54 pm ---- well thats what i do for a living, mechanic and car dismantler, room? i got mor than enough room, i dont see how the engines will make money, yeah they are expensive but they aint selling, just looked on ebay now and a running gti complete is about £7-800, i think the way forward for this car is death

#7: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 5:19 pm ---- Ebay spares or repair, some chav will have it of you
#8: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: E5GDM, Location: EssexPosted: Wed Oct 10, 2012 4:51 am ---- Unless your not going to buy another car, put another engine in yours. Buy a whole Gti for '£7-800' for the engine if you have to, & then scrap/sell what's left over to claw some money back. Your car sounds nice, would be a shame to break it.
#9: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:29 am ---- What colour is it?
#10: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gazza, Location: OSWESTRYPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 3:48 am ---- moonstone blue
#11: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gavin28, Location: BlackpoolPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 4:19 am ---- If it was me i would probably rebuild it. I rebuilt my mondeo diesel when the cambelt snapped on that. Cost me around £150 for all the parts including new valves etc. It just depends on if you can get parts cheap locally. I used about 5 different auto factors to get my parts cheap - some are cheaper on some things - I remember getting a water pump for £14 from one!
#12: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gazza, Location: OSWESTRYPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 4:50 am ---- thats true mate, well if i were to rebuild the head im looking at atleast £100 for all the valvem then head skim, headset head bolts, id do the cambelt kit, i can see it costing me about £300 ish, then if i was to sell it for £700 i dont seeany point in that has that would'ne even cover my time, its so annoying when i watch 'wheeler dealer', mike brewer is so annoying
#13: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: chuckstar34, Location: London/Worcester/ GrimsbyPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 5:02 am ---- Well, Im after a rear axle, and you mentioned it was new or newish. Is that a refurb or new...shiny out of packet..new? If your are gonna bust it up, what do you want for axle?? Im thinking of doing a bearing kit but if it sfair price ill swap it out.
#14: Re: WHAT TO DO? Author: Gazza, Location: OSWESTRYPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 5:52 am ---- well the rear axle are selling for around £250 on ebay, but if you can collect it ill do it cheaper
