dangerous brakes

ok so problem number 4.4 million.

the brakes in my car are really crap. i have to push the brake peddle right to the bottom to even stop properly. when the car is nearly stationary lets say at the lights then if i press the brake peddle slightly it will hold the car in one place but not while moving.

i have had new brake shoes in the back both sides and new brake pads (only pads) at the front.

there is no leak in the system as far as i know.
the brake fluid reservoir is at the right amount.

what could be the problem?
also when i had the brake shoes done they adjusted the handbrake and now it has gone high again slowly and slowly.

try this, with the engine off pump the brake pedal a few times it should go firm, when the pedal is firm keep foot pressed down on the pedal, turn your engine on. you should feel the pedal sink a little. post your findings after this test

new brake pad all round will give you next to no brake until they are all bedded in

Brake fluid might need 'bleeding' or changing, or the brake master cylinder or brake servo is defected.

I've not done rear shoes on my 206 yet so they may operate differently, but i had the same problem with my mk4 fiesta when the rear auto adjusters wore out. They wound them selves the wrong way and i would get huge travel in the brake pedal - scary at times! This lead to the master cylinder failing due to the excessive travel ( to the floor some days) and that was almost the same symptoms - no brakes until the last inch of travel in the pedal.

i just tried this and made no change in the brake peddle at all. it did get harder ti press when ignition was of but when started the peddle just sank.


the break pads have been inside for a good few hundred miles now but peddle still sinks.


could the pads and disks need changing as only the pads wer changed?


how would i know if my brake cylinder or servo is defected?


oh and when i drive the car when the brakes and car have cooled down then when i brake it makes a grinding type noise till the brakes warm up again

Was it like it from the moment the pads were done?
It sounds like air in the system and no anti squeal grease used but could be many things.
If the work was done by a mate kick him in the nuts and tell him to put it right.
If it was done by a garage take it back and complain and get it put right.

had the same problem about 3 weeks ago, just needed bleeding with a easy bleed kit! or take it to a garage should not cost you more than £30!

get it done asap! i didnt drive the car till it was done!
