My last car was an a4 1.8t quattro and with a bit of tweaking was running s3 power and easily capable of more.
#197: Re: MattyP's 180 Project - Update 19/03/14 Author: JamieM, Posted: Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:52 am ---- Boring.
Audi's don't do it for me my dad has a q7 it's a nice beast but yawwwwwwwwwwn. Same with my uncles a5 or whatever it is, clinical boring souless machines.
And they do go wrong but when they do 'Surprise' is screamed as they enter you. lol.
I'd have an RS3 the awd one or TTRS just because they're probably unstoppable in all conditions.
Needs ITBS

I've never tried Audi's etc, all i've owned since I past my test was mk2 fiesta, 2 saxo's and 2 206's and think it's time to try something new, the only other car I would like to own if not an S3 is an EP3 or a DC2
#199: Re: MattyP's 180 Project - Update 19/03/14 Author: JamieM, Posted: Thu Mar 20, 2014 7:21 am ---- Hmm
Ep3 is abit sideways, awesome cars but performance isn't far different from a 180. The S3's are nice don't get me wrong but for that sort of money I'd really explore all the alternatives it's a buyers market so you could get some decent shizzle!

A big dozy 4x4 is gonna be a bit yawn regardless of who made it, unless it's bowler of coarse. Can't say iv ever been in an a5 but the s3 beats the 180 in ALL respects rain or shine.

That's not the point though. They are all so bland. Interior ect.. bar the TT which I actually like. The BOSE systems... now they are good.
I didn't say the 180 is quicker? it's not about that, To me it's more exciting to look at, more of a project car to tinker with because it's cheap. Usually when you mod cars it generally ends up ruining them OR making them worth less. I wouldn't spend a shed load on a car like that and ruin it with mods but then I'd get bored.
Focus ST
Gashtra Vixer
Focus RS
Megane RS
ect
Cars that are good to mod, and as they're cheap and mostly looked as adult kid cars almost expected to have daft wheels and stupidly loud exhausts. The Audi, is an expensive up market car in comparison even if it is a hatch.
That's my opinion on them anyway. I think that people who mod those cars unless young and got pennies or got them cheap because they're getting on abit just look like hey I'm in the middle of a mid life crysis.
If bought and kept stock they're respectable and quick. Start painting badges and crap like that and imo you'll look a t**t.

German cars have a habit of looking tacky with very little effort but surely that means the designers got it right to begin with. Iv driven both and personal experience the s3 was far more fun, even more so in the wet. Its lighter with better brakes, better suspension, a better chassis and to top it off its part time 4 wheel drive. The 1.8t engine used in vag cars is probably one of the most tunable engines about and it doesn't have to cost a fortune either.
The cars you've listed are all great I'm sure but they're 3 times the price of a reasonable 8l s3.
you say bland, I say refined, surely how a car looks is down to personal taste anyway.
They haven't aged well at all imo. I'd definitely sooner have a 180 than the old S3. They actually look OLD. + for a decent unmolested low ish milleage example you can buy far newer cars.
I thought we were talking about the newer ones sorry, that's why I said I wouldn't mod one ect. The old ones been done to death like every other car with the vag 1.8t's it's cheap so you can throw all your tacky out of the bumper ic pipes over that lol.
I'd sooner go sideways to an Ep3.

Think we might have to agree to disagree on this one buddy. I'd take an unmolested s3 all day long.

Lol not for the price of a 180 you wouldn't
Probably best to agree to disagree killing poor mattys thread haha.
#206: Re: MattyP's 180 Project - Update 19/03/14 Author: MattyP, Location: PlymouthPosted: Thu Mar 20, 2014 5:02 pm ---- Haha no worries chaps, been taking in all the above and I prefer the newer S3 to the old S3 but is out of my price range as are any vxr, focus rs etc, I should just face the fact that I love my 180, it's very stylish and cheap to run on parts etc Last edited by MattyP on Thu Mar 20, 2014 5:28 pm; edited 1 time in total

#208: Re: MattyP's 180 Project - Update 19/03/14 Author: Elreidy, Location: WrexhamPosted: Thu Mar 20, 2014 5:19 pm ---- On another note, my friend has an st running the revo 320 package, and have not faced many which can keep up from a pull (bar an m6, db9, rs running 500bhp haha)

#210: Re: MattyP's 180 Project - Update 21/03/14 Author: MattyP, Location: PlymouthPosted: Fri Mar 21, 2014 5:32 am ---- So Wednesday I was having a bad day and decided that I wouldn't carry on with the 180 and start saving for a replacement, well after alot of thinking and chill time (blast on the motorway ) I realised that the cars I would consider buying, focus rs mk1, 8P S3 and others were out of my price range not to mention parts will probably be more expensive than for the pug.
So to celebrate, I've given the go ahead for my centre console to be hyrdodipped by GarnishDip which will finish off the cf look interior Last edited by MattyP on Fri Mar 21, 2014 5:55 am; edited 1 time in total
