#4: Re: Gearbox, diff & transfer box recommendations HERE > Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Mon May 13, 2013 6:31 am ---- Why would you choose anything other than the correct grade from the other manufacturers? Do they really offer anything different?
#5: Re: Gearbox, diff & transfer box recommendations HERE > Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Mon May 13, 2013 8:58 am ---- I'd rather just pay the extra & get the correct stuff from a Peugeot / Citroen main dealer.
Correct oil is far cheaper then a gearbox.
#6: Re: Gearbox, diff & transfer box recommendations HERE > Author: oilman, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Wed Jan 22, 2014 4:05 am ---- Gear oils, differential oils and transfer box oils can be just as, if not more complicated as engine oils!

#8: Re: Gearbox, diff & transfer box recommendations HERE > Author: oilman, Location: Sunny CornwallPosted: Wed Jan 22, 2014 6:35 am ---- Hi
Sorry, I missed the posts from Edward and MrBSI. Own brand oils are like other own brand products - they are usually okay, but there are often better things. They are made to meet certain requirements by the manufacturer out of ingredients that are okay, no more than that though usually. Fair enough, it means they will do the job to the minimum requirement, but won't offer the best levels of protection. After all, why would the car maker offer products that protect the gearbox and engine to the best levels? They want them both to wear out after a while so they need replacing.
Mattymj, perhaps try a different 75w-80. We often get reports of the Red Line MTL and Amsoil MTF improving gear shifts compared to the standard fluid.

You need an MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Red Line MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80 and Motul Motylgear are good cheaper alternatives.
