But how long will it last. I imagine if the bearings are knackered then the stub pin will be damaged too which means new bearings will have a short life.

Most agarges will even let you accompany them or point out the problems while it is on the ramp.
You might need to ask nicely but ask in advance. You sound quite ineperienced to be diagnosing faults and then probably throwing lots of money at something wrongly diagnosed.
