You need the correct tools todo it and if you don't know what your doing I would really suggest you let someone who does do it.

I would let a garage do it tbh mate, when you do have the belt change i'd recommend replacing the water pump as well

Most difficult part of the 138 GTi cambelt change is getting the covers off. It's tight with the air conditioning pipes removed it's impossible with them still there so you have to shift the engine off it's mounts to make space.

Get a Haynes manual and its not too bad. Use drill bits and tip-ex to mark the timing and you cant really go wrong.

Haynes manual covers the belt change in a 307 though. It overlooks the access problems in the 206.

old trick ..... hold a stanley knife against the belt on idle in the centre of the belt until it is in two pieces. Stop engine and slacken tensioner. Remove outer piece of cut belt and slip new belt on halfway. Second half of old belt holds the timing in place. Cut off second half of belt and slip new belt on fully. Tighten tensioner

The above method is simply a quick way to change a belt without the proper locking devices and should only be attempted if you are confident the original timing was ok and you are of a reasonablly adept in mechanical issues..... Shocked
