get the threads really clean and soak them for a few days in wd40 and oil.
then put them in a vice or hold them securely against something if not and gently try and free off the collars by tapping in the slots with a hammer and drift/big punch until the start to move.

its not really strong enough to take the rust off Sad get a nice stiff wire brush from halfords or a diy shop would be better

could put some spring compressers on, take the top mounts off so there is minimal stress on the collars then wire brush and dowse in wd every few hours..

you can buy coilover covers to stop this from happening Wink or atleast reduce it

Brushes wont help clean the threads under the lockrings. Needs grease on the threads after you've loosened them.

You'll be a lot better off using penetrating oil ... WD40 is over-sold and pretty useless at this.

You might need to use TWO spanners ... one on the top ring, one on the lower. Chases are they've been overtightened and are jamming against each other and the threads now.

are you turning the two nuts opposite ways? eg top one right, bottom left?

hammer and bolster normaly works for me.

tryed turning it both ways. will have another go at the weekend

#24: Re: coilovers will not adjust! Author: NorthantsBen, Location: Raunds, Northamptonshire PostPosted: Tue Nov 27, 2012 12:07 pm

it will be top one to right and bottom to left, i normally hold one of them with c spanner while other nut is hit with hammer and bolster by a mate (not got enough hands lol)

once the two nuts are apart they will move easy,.

One has to go up and one has to go down, not together in one direction Laughing

Penetrating oil finds it's way between the two seized components.

Any grease...copper grease...lard...anything that coats the threads to stop moisture and dirt getting into them.
