#2: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: 20Drift, Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2012 5:11 pm ---- Jesus! Never seen that happen before. Was there any rusting/corrosion on the springs that you noticed?
#3: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: anton1989, Location: west midlandsPosted: Fri Dec 21, 2012 5:38 pm ---- not really had a look but from the pictures they are not that bad?
#4: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: 20Drift, Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2012 6:17 pm ---- I meant did you notice any before it collapsed onto the tyre. It doesn't look bad in the picture though. I guess it's a good excuse to upgrade to some Bilsteins
#5: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: DanT, Location: Torbay, EnglandPosted: Fri Dec 21, 2012 7:50 pm ---- See this a lot more these days. State of the roads round here springs snap on all sorts of cars. Modified or standard. Happened to me on my old saxo vts about 2 days after i bought it. When i took it all apart the other side had been replaced already.
#6: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: anton1989, Location: west midlandsPosted: Sat Dec 22, 2012 1:34 am ---- O, no I didn't mate. Its not that bad, easy fix but all fell on to my tyre stopping it from moving, had this happend on the motorway on my way home It would have been seruious. Worries me thinking about. Just a pain in the a**e because the car is for sale soon and I didn't want to spend any money on it.
Yeah the roads near me are very bad I have hit a few deep pot holes since moving and thought my wheel was f****d had to have tracking done a few time aswell
#7: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: stevesey, Location: BristolPosted: Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:11 am ---- Spring failures are common these days - combination of speed bumps, manufacturing tolerances and the fact that cars just last longer.
Wife lost a tyre on here Corsa because the end of the spring was just brushing the tyre one full lock - so she drove a few 100 yards before the noise and smell altered her.
Strange thing is they nearly always seem to go when stationary, or the instant you move off after a halt. I've seen lots of posts on various forums about broken springs - not one occurred when moving.
#8: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:53 am ---- That's not a GTi is it? I've got some near pristine GTi springs that were removed from the car in 2004.
Cold weather also makes the springs brittle.
#9: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: bezford, Location: darlingtonPosted: Sat Dec 22, 2012 9:16 am ---- Could have been bad...lucky id say...new springs in the fkautomotive site just £20 if i remember rightly.

#14: Re: unwanted lowering!!! Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun Dec 23, 2012 10:47 am ---- Its our roads and the weather to blame.
