#1: First Car Project Author: Paddy1795, Location: Carlisle PostPosted: Mon Jan 07, 2013 1:33 pm
    ----
I guess this is kind of a project, it's my first car and I'm really enjoying it, but with being 17 and a new driver I'm strapped down by insurance, and the worst kind of insurance, the dreaded black box. Evil or Very Mad
So yeah, modifications for the engine will be minimal, but I'm hoping to get the car looking a bit nicer at least. I know some people might think modifying a 1.1 is pointless, but its satisfying and at least by modifying this I'll learn my way around the car a bit.

Plans;
-Carbon wing mirror caps, fuel cap, front badge, ash tray lid and interior light. Thanks to Razpulsedj for them! ?
-Debadge ?
-LED side lights ?
-LED interior lights ?
-GTi 180 front bumper
-206info sticker
-Pink Calipers (Gonna get hate for this)
-Alloys
-GTi dial surround
-Lowering springs
-Coilovers
-Pressed Plates
-GTi spoiler
-Retrimmed door cards and roof lining
-Possibly de-wiper

This is the car when I bought it, I don't think its a bad example, a few dings but they're inevitable with a 10 year old car.

Gave it a wash before adding any parts, brought out the few dents even more but it looked shiny so I was pretty pleased with the outcome haha.

Here it is now with all the bits I've bought so far added;

06/01/2013 - Apologies for the pictures being a bit crappy, they were taken on my phone and a few in the dark, Im planning to get some much better pictures when the weather brightens up!

The wing mirrors look really smart, had a few people ask where I got them and whether they could be done for their cars haha.

The badge looks really green here, its not green at all really.

The car is really dirty inside in this one too, it got a total clean out the day after haha.

I think this looks really cool, I'm going to be buying a black suede roof lining and door cards at some point so hopefully that'll make it look even better!

I think this looks nice as well, not too obvious but makes the car stand out a little.

Debadging didn't go as well as I had hoped, it looks good most of the time but the "PEUGEOT" is still fairly visible in some lights, any tips on getting rid of this? My dad says T-Cut, but a lot of people hate using the stuff so I didn't fancy it! You can just see the kind of faded marks of the badge in the picture below.

I think these look pretty cool too, a little bluer than I expected but they definitely make the car visible!

I used the same bulbs for the side lights as I did for the interior lights, so its pretty bright, the boot looks cool with a blue glow.

The boot light. Really crap photo haha.

The interior light, as you can see its fairly blue!

07/01/2013 -

The GTI 180 bumper arrived today, I had a bit of a struggle getting hold of this in the right colour code but Ive got it now, and Im well pleased with it, really looking forward to getting it fitted at the weekend!

Anyone know whether I would be able to wire the front fogs into the rear fog switch on the stalk? And would it pass MOT if I did?

08/01/2013 - So I got home from work a bit early today, decided to try fit the bumper. What a mistake. It was pitch black by the time Id got the arch liners off, and I managed to scratch the s**t out of the grille thing that the badge is attached to! Not happy about this, but hopefully T Cut will do the trick!

Also, if anyone spots this, what do people think of 205 GTI wheels on 206s? Im thinking about getting some for the future
when its lowered nicely haha.

09/01/2013 - Just a few pictures I got tonight. (I know, photography isn't one of my talents)

The carbon wrapped badge does a lot for the car!

It looks pretty mean here, can't wait to get the new bumper on though, will look so much better!

This is just a little photoshop I did to get an idea of what it might look like with the wheels Im bidding on, think they might look a bit smaller in real life.

^I quite like the look, but I might still plastdip them until I get the springs fitted!^

12/01/2013 - Tried to fit the front bumper again, this time with the help of a friend, got the car jacked up and TIMBER! the car fell right off them, luckily we both got out of the way and there was no damage!
Sadly this attempt was unsuccessful again, the bolts by the wheel arch just spin and spin, so I got a hacksaw today to cut up off, and it started bloody snowing!

Anyway, heres how far we got yesterday:

And a few pictures from the Cruise West Cumbria Cruise in Carlisle on the night! It was a good night and had a much bigger turn out than Id expected! Didn't see many 206s though, hopefully my car will be there next year!

14/01/2013 -

So I've changed my mind on the lowering, although I've got some springs and rear shocks on the way I think I'm gonna get myself some cheap coilovers off of ebay and hope they're half decent haha! Hopefully have these in about 2 months, if I can wait that long!

15/01/2013 - A parcel arrived today! And I won an auction on the white Saxo wheels! Theyre getting picked up on Sunday, and will be getting some rubber a week or two after!

What could it be?..

Lowering springs! I think theyre in alright condition, although I'm no mechanic. Could be getting them fitted sooner than I thought because my MOT is coming up and I need something sorted out on my suspension anyway! Also hoping these will be followed by coilovers pretty quickly!

21/01/2013 -

Picked up my wheels yesterday! They're in decent nick so really hoping they're gonna look decent!

Looks good mate, personally wouldn't bother with gti 180 brakes as its only a 1.1 but then again it is your motor

Thanks a lot mate! Its just starting out really, im hoping therell be a lot more done to it in the next 6 months, look wise at least.
Yeah I thought the same, but I'm maybe buying some pretty cheap (I'm still undecided but pretty much sure) and I can't exactly see the insurance company complaining about me having better brakes haha!

Paddy!

I would be very careful with doing anything while you are using a tracker insurance company. Most of them do not insure modified cars and any modification will invalidate your insurance. They will use anything not to pay out which includes changing anything from factory, which even things like stickers will come under.

Yeah I know man, it's difficult though, as my mates say, I've got the modifying bug! I'm only adding peugeot parts at the minute, the springs might not be going on yet and the brakes I'm gonna ask them about, so I'm hopeful, but it's not likely to work.
Im only insured TPFT anyway but they'd probably try to get out of paying out because I leave my jacket on the front seat haha!

Yeah i could understand upgrading the brakes if your were putting a bigger engine in, but yeah the insurers should like the fact you want to upgrade the brakes! However I'm 100% sure the insurers won't be into alloy wheels or the gti bumper

Haha, I agree they might not be best pleased with alloys or the bumper, but they're gonna have to deal with it!

Kidding, I'm just gonna have to pay them a s**t load more money, just like I will when I go over my 5000 mile limit! Neutral

Before you buy alloys I'd let them know your gona put alloys on as that's what I did but lucky for me it didn't affect my insurance so the price didn't go up!

I'm supposed to be getting some as a late Christmas present so I'm just gonna call them when I get them since I'm not supposed to know I'm getting them, and I'm not definite that I am! But the family member buying tem understands about insurance and that I maybe couldn't put them on straight away haha!

Haha fair enough, did you look at how much it was to insure a 1.4 206 when you started looking for a car? As I found that was cheaper than a 1.1!

No way! I didn't even think about it, but I got offered the car for £800 from a friend so I just bought and insured it haha, wish I'd have tried a 1.4 now! How old are you? And were you black box or normal insurance?

I'm 18 mate, had a 1.2 Clio before and insurance was more on that than my 1.4 206! I'm on normal insurance
